Wings Above The World: September 2013
http://wingsabovetheworld.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Wings Above The World. We hear wingbeats above us. We feel a heartbeat within us. One and the same. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Birds From The Last Few Days. One of my favorite birds from the Eastern Sierra (they are all over, but I grew to love them there), the Warbling Vireo. The Vireo takes off. A rare island migrant, a Green-tailed Towhee. This bird stayed for at least a week. A Western Flycatcher noms a beetle in the Coast Guard Tree. Same bird, extra curious. One of the few dozen Black Turnstones.

the BIO technician: The Final Post from Midway
http://biotechnician.blogspot.com/2009/08/final-post-from-midway.html
Please email any questions or comments to: zackgrazul@gmail.com. Thursday, August 20, 2009. The Final Post from Midway. On the eve of my departure from Midway Atoll, I would like to post a few pictures that didnt quite fit into the other posts, but are still worthy in my opinion. Up until now, all pictures have been raw, straight from the camera, and unedited. A gritty look at life on one of the world's most remote islands. A tough looking red-tailed tropic bird chick. I think I'm being followed. There w...

the BIO technician: I've had my hands full
http://biotechnician.blogspot.com/2009/08/ive-had-my-hands-full.html
Please email any questions or comments to: zackgrazul@gmail.com. Thursday, August 6, 2009. I've had my hands full. A Gooney egg. Gooney is a coloquial name for the albatross. Why they went with Albatross instead of Gooney I dont know. You may thing Albatross sounds more dignified, than why Booby instead of Gannet? This egg was layed several months ago, and must be handled carefully as its contents have been stewing in the sun and are under tremendous preassure. A live .50 cal round from WWII.

Rock Paper Lizard: Gifting bird, for Easter
http://rockpaperlizard.blogspot.com/2015/04/gifting-bird-for-easter.html
Lizard sits on rock, rock rolls onto lizard. Paper blows around in the background. Saturday, April 4, 2015. Gifting bird, for Easter. If ever you are among the first of the general public to be admitted to the Honolulu Zoo, hurry to the Southern Ground Hornbill enclosure and be their first visitors of the day. That's what we did one day last week. (Not pre-planned, just turned out that way.). Southern Ground Hornbills are great big black birds with scarlet fleshy facial features. Something had gone awry ...

TPAD: September 2014
http://tpadsefi.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 19, 2014. The Avian Fairies' Sparkling Hoard. Today dawned with fog and without promise. But, as dawn matured, the fog lifted and the birds descended. We had an excellent day on the island with many western migrants and a handful of eastern species plus a bonus from Siberia: Blackburnian, Blackpoll, Tennessee, and Magnolia Warblers, and two Red-throated Pipits. Highlight from the west was a lone Black Swift soaring overhead. ( See the eBird checklist here. Adam J. Searcy. A Farallones p...

A couple weeks ago I wrote a post about identifying shorebirds in general, and White-rumped Sandpipers in particular. If you missed that post, you might want to check it out. Other things that are good for Western on the photo above include a thicker looking neck and bigger looking head than we see on Semipalmated.
