Saving Sea Turtles One Track at a Time! Many of you are familiar with our work on St. Pete Beach. Did you know that we are also responsible for nest monitoring on Shell Key? Shell Key is a small barrier island accessible only by boat. We had a record number of sea turtle nests last year on Shell Key. Every year, a significant percentage of the nests on Shell Key were damaged or completely destroyed by predators. In 2013, 70% of the nests were affected. Protecting nest sites on shell key.

Saving Sea Turtles One Track at a Time! We ride at dawn.". Each and every morning our dedicated volunteer patrollers hit the beach half an hour before sunrise. These trails are the sign our volunteers are searching for - a sign that nesting season has begun! Some of the biggest factors negatively affecting sea turtle nesting on public beaches are beach obstructions.
