Good Times | Seeds & Stones

https://seedsandstones.blog/2016/08/19/good-times

The Taste of Summer-Kale. The Extended Garden Tour →. August 19, 2016. Most of you who read my blog know me and my family pretty well…and if you are new here (thanks to Soulemama’s. Sharing of our garden), Welcome, so glad you came! I write here mostly about gardening because that is what inspires me most….but these days life has been so intensely full, gardening is on the back burner, as I have been home with three children while my husband has been working in New Zealand for two weeks. To say the least!

The Extended Garden Tour. August 21, 2016. What an honor to have our little 1/5acre of paradise featured on Soule Mama’s Blog. My husband is kind of a twisty wood collector, before we got married I think he thought he would retire early and set up a twisty wood furniture company… well, no early retirement for this papa of three, and now our gardens are all hemmed in with twisty wood creations…lucky me! Shade is key in the desert, now we have grapes vines that are almost covering it, but those grass mat f...

I have been a garden teacher for many years in Santa Fe’s Public Schools and Community College. I always love any opportunity to teach about growing good food from the good green earth and would love to share with you. Right now the only places I am teaching is to my own three little children at home, but follow along my blog and read through the archives for a bounty of high desert garden wisdom! Cultivating | Seeds & Stones

A place where I share what I am sowing, cultivating, and harvesting at the old homestead. March 1, 2017. It has caused great reflection; who am I now, what do I do, what do I share, what is the most important thing right now? My work has always been grow food, feed people, teach them so…. and so though it may be simple work I am getting the message that it is still important, relevent and imperative in these crazy times. People will always need to eat and resistance creates hunger! The Extended Garden Tour.

The Taste of Summer-Kale. August 18, 2016. Yet another fantastic leafy green we have coming out of our ears! In fact we have so much Kale we give it away to our friends and family, share it with our chickens, bunny and even worms…But what I really like to do is throw it in the food processor with a little water and then put it in ice cube trays. This provides us with perfect little Kale Cubes for counting into smoothies whenever we wish. They drink it right up! Luckily I can make my own and so can you!

Sunday, June 30, 2013. The Farmer's Life (in June). Beginnings of our sunflower house. 160;We have been enjoying the first fruits of our labor from the farm this season. Friday, May 31, 2013. Peaceful Spirit, Warrior Child. Picture of J on one of our trips to Colorado. Our Journeys are ever deeper charting the map of scars riven in our souls by time. Map these scars and embrace them. These are our teachers, the hard lessons this life has put our way. Just as the hurdler makes his jumps. We traverse the narrow ever winding paths and pitfalls which lead us to our personal salvation. Shedding layers as a snake sheds its skin. WARRI0RS IN THE HEART by Mark Loman). Dandelion ...

Friday, January 18, 2013. Rest in peace, Rowan. You were a damn fine rooster. The best. You will be missed, sweet fella. Neither Rain, Snow, Sleet. This is the picture we awoke to today. We were expected to get up to 12 inches, but the storm changed direction and we barely got 3 inches. There was a period of white-out conditions, but it did not last long. For awhile, it was looking like we would be getting a lot of snow. We're just a bit disappointed! Birdie, Rusty (the bantam rooster) and Lucifer. Brigh...

Thursday, July 25, 2013. Rocky Mountain High, part 2. Our favorite place to visit in Colorado is Garden of the Gods. Every time we go, Garden of the Gods is top on the list. The sandstone rock formations are simply gorgeous. We have so much fun exploring! We got there later in the day after we had gone to the bug museum and the zoo and thought the boys might not want to hike, but they leaped out of the car. They were not missing this! C having fun on the boulders. J exploring nooks and crannies. A couple...

Seeds & Stones | A Life Home Grown

A Life Home Grown. The end of the season. October 5, 2016. This morning I glimpsed through this blog. Of a gardener gathering up her garden bounty before the last frost (you may have seen it too) and thought, I should really do that today… or tomorrow, or sometime soon. Thoughts like that usually take me about a week to actually accomplish these days, but when I went out side I found little Jacky frost had already made his way to my door! A genius of a farmer from Maine). I have decided I am doing only f...

Seeds & Stones | A Life Home Grown

A Life Home Grown. The Rough Guide to Big Batch Basil Pesto. August 9, 2015. It happens every summer…or winter I suppose. I start in the green house in March with these little tiny Basil seeds…. They are so itty bitty I end up planting way too many. When they grow I find plenty of nooks and crannies for them to grow in the garden and then this time of year I am swimming in beautiful Genovese Basil. So I get to work on big old batches of pesto to freeze and share at the Santa Fe Harvest Swap. 1 cup of Oli...
