Seeking Claire-ity

One girl. Two years. My Life in Rwanda. Drop me a line. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. The Transience of Expat Life. Fast forward four years, and I’m living that expat life. A lot of those things are true. I love the little adventures of things that would be completely banal at home. No trip to the market is ever the same, my brain has been soaking up all the Kinyarwanda I can put in it, and my passport is significantly fuller than four years ago. I never really understood when I came to Rwanda over three years...

One girl. Two years. My Life in Rwanda. Drop me a line. Wednesday, March 26, 2014. My Parents Visit Rwanda! I realize that as of late my blog makes it seem like I do nothing but go on awesome African vacations. I guess that’s what happens when you use almost all of your 48 vacation days in the period of three and a half months. Ago (has it been that long already? The next morning we were all up early to catch the bus to my site, in the southwest. We finally arrived at the convent seven hours later. My pa...

One girl. Two years. My Life in Rwanda. Drop me a line. Thursday, May 15, 2014. 10 Reasons I'm Staying in Rwanda. In February 2012, the U.S. Peace Corps chose me to serve in Rwanda. It was a fairly random selection; I knew I wanted to come to Africa, and speaking French meant that I would come to a francophone country. But now, two years later, I’m choosing Rwanda. You worked so hard to get into your graduate schools, why would you throw that away? 1) A sense of purpose. 4) Not taking anything for granted.

I exchange Kinyarwanda greetings with Claude and lean in to gauge whether he’s been drinking. His breath is rancid but there’s no trace of alcohol on it, so I jump on the back of his gaudily decorated motorcycle, and we start off down the rocky road that leads to my house. 8220;Where to this time? There’s a Kinyarwanda proverb that says “God goes elsewhere during the day, but he stay...Last week...

Allowing a professional photographer to record her treatment, regardless of the course, the outcome is an honest look into the interior of real human strength: Julie's will to survive. The answer is always the same. What people are saying. Wow, what a powerful book! Thank you for sharing a very personal part of yourself in a very profound way.

My Quest to Understand

My Quest to Understand. Skip to primary content. I started this blog to better understand myself, and the people in my life.
