serpentine stitches

Saturday, 23 May 2015. I've been trying out a different way of putting pattern onto dyed fabric - machine-stitched resists. Here are my first few trials. I have used Scollata cotton fabric from Whaley's for these, it is quite lightweight and prepared for dyeing. I cut approximately half metre strips and then divided those into four. I used old polyester thread for the stitching. I started by pleating each piece with about 3" pleats, then stitched:. V shapes in both a zigzag and stretch stitch. There was ...

serpentine stitches: 09/01/2013 - 10/01/2013

http://www.serpentinestitches.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, 12 September 2013. Devoré workshop with Dionne Swift. Our first sample was a positive and negative design onto velvet using a silk screen with a paper mask. I did some buildings and added a bit of rain with a Thermofax screen. Then we had a choice between making a scarf and trying other fabrics. My second sample used a piece of devoré satin and the design combines a masking tape mask with a different Thermofax. The best bit was washing the fabric, after ironing it, and revealing the design.

Saturday, 26 October 2013. Journal quilts - June to August. This is a quick catch up of the Summer's Journal Quilts, continuing to use sheer fabrics in different ways. June - Like May's, this is another JQ made completely of layers of nylon organza. Irregular-shaped buildings against the city skyline. July - following on from a TWL meeting on paper lamination, I produced this cityscape using paper lamination with a collage of magazine text. Saturday, 19 October 2013. Saturday, 21 December 2013. Octobers JQ - Manchester in the rain. I used the top half for my JQ and added buildings in the background using layers of nylon organza. Here is the result:. It looks like a typical day in Manchester, low clouds, rain and not much light. Note the lights on in the tower blocks in the background. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Drawing Tuesday :More Coral at the Beaney. Follow-up to last month's meeting. A MINDFUL MODE OF STILLNESS.

serpentine stitches: Finished JQs and a trip to Harrogate

http://www.serpentinestitches.blogspot.com/2015/05/finished-jqs-and-trip-to-harrogate.html

Saturday, 2 May 2015. Finished JQs and a trip to Harrogate. I had originally pictured myself continuing to work on these over the weekend, but in the end I had lots still to do on my first four Journal Quilts. I was only on the second one when I arrived and went home with three nearly complete after stitching at every opportunity. I just managed to finish them on time (30 June) and I was happy with how they turned out. Now what can I do with these leftover pieces? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Textile Without Limits: Stitched resist from June's meeting

http://textilewithoutlimits.blogspot.com/2015/07/stitched-resist-from-june-meeting.html

Saturday, 4 July 2015. Stitched resist from Junes meeting. The last meeting was an opportunity for us to prepare fabrics for dyeing in July. I described some techniques that I had been trying and showed my samples, which can be seen below. I used two different approaches in producing these samples:. Hand or machine stitching, then drawing the fabric up tightly. Dense machine stitching which did not need to be drawn up. Here are the results for the parallel lines at the bottom. The straight lines came out...
