Medieval and Renaissance Flies: Macedonian Beginnings

http://seventeenthcenturyflies.blogspot.com/2011/03/macedonian-beginnings.html

Medieval and Renaissance Flies. Wednesday, March 9, 2011. In approximately two hundred AD, a man, a Roman commentator named Claudius Ælianus, wrote an account, most likely received third hand, that has caused no end of controversy to the present day and more then likely, for ever after as well. It concerns a method of fishing, with a fly, as practiced at the time in. And is pretty much the first written record of a fly pattern, however incomplete, that we have today. Has done a far better job than I could.

Atlanticsalmonflyguys blog: The Evolution of the Featherwinged Salmon Flies - The Rangers continued

http://atlanticsalmonflyguy.blogspot.com/2010/01/evolution-of-featherwinged-salmon-flies_19.html

Ruminations and musings on the history and evolution of the Atlantic salmon fly, as well as showing off my own creations and featuring those tiers whose works I like. Tuesday, January 19, 2010. The Evolution of the Featherwinged Salmon Flies - The Rangers continued. Despite being an obviously successful pattern, I find only two authors actually have it listed with a pattern, and no one else even mentions it besides Mikael Frodin, our esteemed modern compiler of old patterns. Topping plus Indian crow.

Ruminations and musings on the history and evolution of the Atlantic salmon fly, as well as showing off my own creations and featuring those tiers whose works I like. Wednesday, March 17, 2010. According to George Mortimer Kelson, the credit for inventing the Dandy goes to James Wright, with a time frame, according to Mikael Frodin of “middle of 19th century.”. Looking nothing like any subsequent Dandy, it is in my opinion however the prettiest of the lot. The pattern is listed as follows:. No 8 or 9.

Early Modern Social, Cultural and Political History. A hellish crew of Conny-catchers’: crime and the underworld in seventeenth century England. June 24, 2013. July 3, 2013. The OED accredits Robert Greene with coining the phrase ‘conny-catching’ with the earliest recorded use in 1591.
