Pondering education, technology, and making a difference. I love education and learning, which likely explains why I'm a teacher. My areas are ELA, Sr. sciences, and technology. My classroom is best described as a student-centred, tech embedded pbl/inquiry learning environment. Furthermore, I am Buck Institute for Education National Faculty member. February 24, 2016. February 23, 2016. How to create a student-centred classroom? One small step at a time. August 30, 2015. March 7, 2015. January 28, 2015.

Pondering education, technology, and making a difference. Newer posts →. Academics: What’s it good for? January 2, 2014. Academics. Most of our current school system revolves around it, and yet, I think it falls miserably short of what our kids need. To be honest, I think our academic system of education is highly overrated, at best. At worst, it destroys a number of our kids. Schools value hoop jumping. For the most part, kids who we consider academic tend to be good hoop jumpers. They’ve figured ou...

Pondering education, technology, and making a difference. Please, Stop Calling Students Lazy. Your Turn. →. January 28, 2015. I learned early in my teaching career that the simplest things are sometimes the most powerful. Like the power of communication. Over the past 15 years, I’ve taught students from grade 9-12, and over and over, when I call parents to express praise of their child. There tends to be the same response. “Pardon, me? Pondering education, technology, and making a difference. Academics: What’s it good for? Start with Why: the power of student driven learning. August 2, 2013. I know a high school student who is quite amazing. She’s keen. She’s hungry. She wants to be challenged. She’s also bored out of her mind. Frustrated. Angry. Because the truth is, she’s just jumping through hoops, and she knows it. Has been written about it. She would thrive after being asked: What do. What do you want to read? What matters to you?
Sometimes it’s Hard | Wright'sRoom

Pondering education, technology, and making a difference. I struggle: lessons I’ve learned from being an inquiry teacher. Things I’ve learned as an Elementary Vice Principal →. Sometimes it’s Hard. February 20, 2013. I’ve received countless email, some from teachers needing to stay anonymous from their co-workers, of stories just like this. I’ve experienced teaching just like this. It changes kids lives. We teach this way because we want what we do to matter —. Kids want work that is relevant, meaningful...

Monday, November 30, 2015. Turning 30 scared me, but life went on. We found a great home and made a great big move. Saturday, March 30, 2013. Just wanted to share some of the egg dying fun we had yesterday. Most of our eggs ended up with little dents in them, but I think they turned out pretty cute. Wright'sRoom | Pondering education, technology, and making a difference
Pondering education, technology, and making a difference. March 7, 2015. I love social justice. I love empowering people to make a difference in their own lives. It’s what I do with my students. It’s what I try to do globally, as well. One of my favourites? Kiva And this month, in honour of International Women’s Day, you have the opportunity to help a woman change her life, and the life of her family — at no cost to you. Seriously. But dreams all dreams are created equal. And that’s where we can start.
