Just another WordPress.com site. Science (again) explains a biblical event? January 3, 2011. A lot has been going on the past couple months, leading to a temporary hiatus from the blogosphere. But it’s a new year, and the world of water issues has been incredibly active, so we are back, and in order to fulfill at least one resolution, I will be posting at least one new blog a week in 2011! Just another WordPress.com site. A year ago I hadn’t even heard of New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology (New Mexico Tech). The thought of applying to a graduate program was in its early stages. Fortunately, I was surrounded by some incredible influences that lit the fire that led to this amazing opportunity. I grew up along the Jersey shore, where the boardwalk (and a. Living in St. Thomas brought to light groundwater contamination issues. So many hydrocarbons had leaked from deteriorati...Now I...

Just another WordPress.com site. Arsenic on Tap →. September 12, 2010. Jump right in: the water’s fine! Alright, I will make a concerted effort not to be so cheesy in the future, but the current atmosphere surrounding the world of water is pretty tense, so why not start off on the lighter side. The appearance of water over 3.5 billion years ago made our existence possible, and our abuse, misuse, and overuse of this incredible molecule may be our greatest misstep as a species. And last. I am really excite...

Just another WordPress.com site. Monthly Archives: September 2010. Science (again) explains a biblical event? September 22, 2010. Not everyone is convinced, though. There are obviously still questions to whether the event even happened. There are also suggestions that a lower sea level 3000 years ago would result in the described region already being void of water. Others just claim that this is a weak attempt to burst another miracle-bubble. Continue reading →. September 18, 2010. September 12, 2010.

Geology Blues: Sapphires
http://geologyblues.blogspot.com/2014/04/sapphires.html
Friday, April 4, 2014. Last summer we took a long road trip back to the Midwest. On our travels through Montana, we stopped for a day at Gem Mountain outside of Philipsburg, a commercial sapphire mine. Well, not really a mine because the company scoops placer deposits from a quarry and bags the mud and brings it to the facility. Then you can buy 5-gallon pails of gravel and sift through them looking for sapphires. Sam sifting through her bucket of gravel. Sapphires, treated and cut. Geology Blogs I Follow.

Geology Blues: September 2011
http://geologyblues.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Thursday, September 29, 2011. I know it seems a little backwards, but now that classes are back in session, I have some time to catch up and blog about some of Sam and my summer trips. Toward the end of July, Sam had a swimming competition in John Day. So we left a day early to go hike and to try and see some new stuff. First we tried to get up to the Elkhorn Ridge, but the 4WD approach road was more 4WD than my pseudo SUV could handle. We still had time so we went down to the John Day Fossil beds. W...

Thursday, June 30, 2011. So last weekend I went to my first Pacific Northwest NAGT. Meeting. The meeting is a collection of mostly 2-year geology teachers who spend 4 days travelling around the area and one day of actual meetings. Because this years meeting was located at Malheur Field Station. On Thursday we also drove north of Burns to look at the Rattlesnake welded Tuff (235,000 km3 with an eruptive center ( 50 miles NW of MFS), and where the Dinner Creek Welded Tuff contacted the Mesozoic aged accret...
