Cove House Candle Co. The two most important tips are:. Keep wick trimmed to ¼- 3/8 of an inch. At the initial lighting I prefer the 3/8" to give the candle a good start. Weak Flame or drowns out- wick was trimmed to short-extinguish flame and pour off excess wax in a safe container and relight. High Flame or flickering- candle was placed in draft or untrimmed wick.
