We were hit by a snow flurry hard enough to make it virtually impossible to get outstanding photos of the stone circle itself – at any rate with my little compact – but the light was pretty dramatic and a little Photoshopping has improved some of the close-in shots. The circle is over 3,000 years old and the stones are dolerite from Stapeley hill. The tallest stone was probably one of a pair that made up the entrance to the circle. Shrewsbury: Church Street and St. Alkmund’s. The third in a series of drawings by my uncle, Eddie Parker. This is a view looking from St. Mary’s Street down Church Street towards St. Alkmund’s church. St Alkmund’s apparently stands at the highest point of the town, and certainly contributes to its distinctive skyline. And here’s a photograph of approximately the same view, from 2007. I went to university a very indifferent guitarist and came back able to play Anji (more or less) and Light My Fire a la Feliciano, and with one or two fairly average songs, so I guess my time there wasn’t entirely wasted.
