Renovation Rookie: February 2010
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 26, 2010. More progress today. The siding has been removed in anticipation of the door and window installation. The carpenters also built a gate at the side of the fence, and sadly, it's the sturdiest part of the whole fence. (KO makes note to add "build new fence" to ever-growing list o' things to do). Here's a view from the far corner of my yard. All 105 cedar hedges have survived our brutal winter very nicely. The bamboo that was removed in December has not come back . yet. Expanded k...

Renovation Rookie: The 2011 Reveal Part 1 - Guest Bedroom and Bathroom
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2011/09/2011-reveal-part-1-guest-bathroom.html
Sunday, September 4, 2011. The 2011 Reveal Part 1 - Guest Bedroom and Bathroom. Ah, the guest bedroom. When I bought the house, it was painted an alarming orange. Lou's bed, aka my Montauk overstuffed chair, has found a home in the guest bedroom. Lou still pops in for a nap from time to time. The guest bathroom, like the rest of the original house, was blah. Builder's standard laminate countertop, faux brass booby lights, slippery tile floors, and an uninspired colour palette. It's now a cute, cozy guest...

Renovation Rookie: April 2010
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Well, it looks like the construction bit is nearing the end and we're heading into the finishing bit! The drywall is in! The drywall is in! The powder room is very powdery. The front door project (replacing ugly double doors with nice single door, moving doorway out 3', adding gable roof) looks to be about done. The last bit was the concrete step, which they poured on Friday. The gardening is coming along too. I have put solar lights (thanks, Rose! Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Not muc...

Renovation Rookie: The 2011 Reveal Part 2 - Laundry Room
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2011/09/2011-reveal-part-2-laundry-room.html
Sunday, September 4, 2011. The 2011 Reveal Part 2 - Laundry Room. The room that delights me the most is my new laundry room. Previously, it was a store-all room, wedged between the guest bathroom and the bedroom that is now my office. With a little bit of plumbing and electrical, it is now home to my new laundry pair. Meet the girls! Here it is, looking neat and tidy. And here is The Craft Corner of Shame in all its glory! There's even enough room for a little table and my old-school sewing machine.

Tuesday, October 27, 2009. The Before shots - Yard. I think I've mentioned a few times ;-) that I bought a yard with a house. In case I am overstating things (no, I can't put a few sheep out there), here's some info on my "acreage":. Lot is 11,894 sq.ft. Lot is pie-shaped, tapering to a mere 10' at the northernmost end. House is squooshed way at the top of the property, taking up very little valuable Chuck-it space. Yard has not a lot of grass right now. View from beside the deck:. The view from the laun...

Renovation Rookie: May 2010
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 12, 2010. As inspirational as I find all those DIY shows, I also am huge on instant gratification. But every now and again, I get an urge to build something. And that something generally is from IKEA, which is designed for faux-renovators such as myself. Today's project: a patio set. First, size up the job. I can't believe I got that thing into my van! Commence mise en place. For the purposes of furniture assembly, mise. Is putting things that look kinda alike together. Tomorrow, the plumb...

Saturday, November 28, 2009. Landscaping - Part 1. First, let us just say one last adieu. To my perfect Kits condo . buh-bye chandeliers! I'll miss you guys most of all! This week, the cedars were planted. All 105 of them. The wall looks a LOT better now. The yard looks . well, judge for yourself. Take a 10,000lb Bobcat:. Cut a swath along the wall and then make a nice pile:. On the plus side, the bamboo is gone! The cedars look so nice against the wall. They look like a really long line of Rockettes:.

Renovation Rookie: March 2010
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, March 28, 2010. The green, green grass of home. The lawn is in! My giant sandbox/beach volleyball court/kitty litter box is no longer! When I bought the house, the lawn looked like this:. Then it got worse. And then just weird. But now, it's quite gorgeous. My soon-to-be-vegetable garden is one of my fave things. The irrigation system is fully functional now. Good thing it's programmed to come on at 4:30 am because at least one of my dogs is rather obsessed with sprinklers. Sunday, March 14, 2010.

Renovation Rookie: The 2011 Reveal Part 5 - Master Bathroom
http://renorookie.blogspot.com/2011/09/2011-reveal-part-5-master-bathroom.html
Sunday, September 4, 2011. The 2011 Reveal Part 5 - Master Bathroom. Ah, the piece de resistance . the master bath. A woman's retreat, a place of spa-like calm and serenity, where the worries of the day disappear in a foaming bath of bubbles. Well, that wasn't going to happen in THIS bathroom. After annexing the former walk-in closet and about 5' of the master bedroom, there is now room for a free-standing tub and a shower stall. Isn't this a fun tub filler? A free-standing armoire thing has the same cou...
