Discrete choice means that decisions to relocate or develop a new dwelling are modeled explicitly. Simple Integrated Land Use Orchestrator. SILO is a simple yet powerful land-use model that is fully integrated with a travel demand model. This allows representing the full land-use/transportation feedback cycle. SILO is a microscopic model, enabling the integration with both aggregate (or four-step) and disaggregate (or activity-based) travel demand models. SILO is written in Java and open-source. Initially developed as a research project by Parsons Brinckerhoff, Inc. At the University of Maryland.

In addition, land use models are validated by conducting reasonability checks on model sensitivities. For example, a new highway interchange might be implemented in the model and the change in population due to this additional interchange is analyzed for reasonability. Strictly speaking, this is not a true validation as no observed data exists for his case study. SILO has been designed to work with minimal data requirements. In contrast to other large-scale land-use models, SILO only relies on data that are publicly available (at least that is true in the U.S.). The most important local input data are PUMS (Public Use Microdata Sample) files that can be downloaded from the Census Bureau. In den frühen morgenstunden des 19.07.2015 ist silo1-geschäftsführer hansi utz bei einem tragischen verkehrsunfall ums leben gekommen.
