Silvalab studies the molecular, cellular and circuit mechanisms that determine where a given memory is stored in a neurocircuit (memory allocation)
http://www.silvalab.com/projects/allocation.html
Understanding and Treating Memory. How are memories allocated and linked in neurocircuits? Although mechanisms involved in encoding, storing and retrieving memory have attracted a great deal of attention, the processes that allocate individual memories to specific neurons within a network have remained elusive. Similarly, although the processes that connect and link information across time are critical for survival, they have also remained unexplored. Sano, Y, Shobe, JL, Zhou, M, Huang, S, Cai, DJ, Roth,...

Silvalab uses a number of integrative approaches from molecules to circuits to behavior all the way to clinical trials
http://www.silvalab.com/approaches.html
Understanding and Treating Memory. Our laboratory uses a number of approaches to study learning and memory at multiple levels of analyses. Essentially, we use the best possible techniques we can to address the problems we are studying. Although many of our studies include mice with defined mutations, we have also taken advantage of a number of other strategies to alter molecular function in the brain, including pharmacology and gene manipulations with viral vectors. Silvalab studies the causes and treatments for cognitive deficits and autism associated with tuberous sclerosis
http://www.silvalab.com/projects/TSC.html
Understanding and Treating Memory. Autism is thought to be caused by mutations in many different genes and by environmental factors. For example. mutations in the TSC1 and 2 genes are associated with autism and are responsible for Tuberous Sclerosis (TSC). Our mice and patient studies suggested that immune activation may contribute to the risk of autism in TSC. It is possible that molecular processes triggered by immune activation exacerbate the molecular deficits caused by mutations in the TSC genes.
