RPB - A/S Blog. Natural Timbers - Crucial Notes. Tree has been felled. The formed / treated wood. Slow growing trees (e.g. Oak, Chestnut, Teak). Relatively quickly growing trees (e.g. Spruce pine, Larch, Douglas Pine). Some woods are used because of their indiginous. Properties, possessing certain characterists from a certain origin. Growth / Annual rings - Light patches indicate summer's growth, dark - winter growth. (Dark sections caused by tree resin, used to protect the tree during colder months).

Poppiies Product Design AS. Thursday, 8 October 2009. Pouring molten metal into a prepared cavity in a sand mould and allowing it to solidify. Steel and aluminium are most commonly used in this process. Ideally suited to manufacture a one off product. Advantages - Cheap , easy, Hardly any waste and all waste metal can be recast. Poppiies Product Design AS. Thursday, 8 October 2009. Ferrous - Metals that contain iron and carbon. Non ferrous - metals that do not contain iron. Ferrous alloy - a mixture of 2 metals that contain iron and carbon. Non ferrous alloy - 2 metals that dont contain iron or carbon. Oxidization - Rusting - Any metal that contains steel will rust. Mild steel - quite strong, cheap, rusts easily, cant be hardened. USED FOR CAR BODIES. High carbon steel - harder than mild steel . rusts. Hard and Soft woods.

Lumber – When trees are felled (The process of cutting down standing trees) Timber - When trees are cut down and processed - A natural and sustainable source. Come from deciduous tress, which means that they will loose their leaves in the autumn. They are very slow growing meaning that they are a lot more expensive than soft woods when they are harvested. Examples: Ash, Oak, Beech, Teak and Walnut. Examples: Larch, Spruce, Scots Pine, and Douglas fir.

Timber: is processed material in the form of woods you would purchase from BNQ. Wood: is the material. Hardwoods - deciduous tree (looses leaves in the autumn).
