Sash Rap: January 2015
http://sashrap.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, 18 January 2015. I’m thankful for much in my former career as a journalist, especially the exposure to people and events I would never have encountered otherwise. It all helped to build life experience and a certain degree of knowledge about the world, easing me out of my relatively protected existence and challenging preconceived ideas and prejudices. In the 19th century – but that day in Preston the existence of a dysfunctional underbelly of society seemed very real to me. I imagined ...Sunday,...

Sash Rap: Soft Hands
http://sashrap.blogspot.com/2015/03/soft-hands.html
Thursday, 26 March 2015. I miss Bill Lawry. Growing up in the 1980s, Lawry and his fellow Australian TV cricket commentators on Channel Nine were as much part of my summer as the heat and long, aimless days. Now, inevitably, age has wearied him to the point he appears only for the Boxing Day test match once a year in his native Melbourne. Yes, he’s gone! An umpiring mistake would elicit, “Dear oh dear, umpire! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. The Three Phases of Being. Yes, d...

Sash Rap: December 2014
http://sashrap.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Monday, 1 December 2014. The prickly Moses is a most beautiful specimen. It’s a type of bushy wattle that lives in the temperate parts of Australia. For leaves it has a profusion of little spikes, likely to give your skin a gentle massage than cause any pain if you brush past the tree. Just now at the creek near where I live the prickly Moses (Acacia verticillata). 8221; whether it be small or large, individual or collective, we set ourselves within the frame of nature. Sash Rap: August 2015
http://sashrap.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 2 August 2015. A Dialogue on Wisdom. Two men, Aristageles and Caro, meet late one afternoon in the marketplace or agora in Athens, sometime in the 4th century BCE. The following is their conversation. The reader will find that the themes in this mock-Socratic dialogue have a somewhat timeless flavour. My good man, Caro, it pains me to see you like this. What in Zeus’ name is the matter? I wish I knew. But why such a perplexed look? Well, what did they say about this most weighty subject? Pellius ...

Sash Rap: July 2015
http://sashrap.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 9 July 2015. Do you remember those vivid, stylised posters of Barack Obama emblazoned with the word “HOPE” that appeared just before he was elected president of the United States in 2008? What happened to the euphoria of hope that swelled like a huge wave at that time, millions of people attending his inauguration and seeing his speech around the world? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I'm a writer/activist interested in bringing the sacred back into everyday life. I'm fascinated by the myths an...

Sash Rap: November 2014
http://sashrap.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 9 November 2014. Old and new, affirming life. Walking through a peaceful park or bushland I often get the urge to say something to the land, to intone some words of acknowledgement. Speaking directly to the presence in that place, I usually say “Thank you, spirit of this land, for having me here and showing me your beauty and wisdom.” I bring my hands together and bow slightly to add small gravity to the moment. No mundo, eu à minha procura: Agosto 2015
http://daybydaylovinglife.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
No mundo, eu à minha procura. For a better me and for a better world: the minimalist way.
