The New Violinist: December 2014
http://thenewviolinist.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Wednesday, December 31, 2014. So I decided since I can't afford my violin lessons this month and she really isn't worth what I am paying her anyway, that I would look for an alternative and I came upon artistworks.com. It sounded pretty good. For $35 a month you get: access to hundreds of video lessons, you get to send in a video of your playing (any time you want! And your instructor will reply with suggestions and advice, you get access to a forum, chat and blog etc. etc. and so I did it. However, ther...

http://amidwestgarden.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
In the garden with David P. Offutt - The Gastronomic Gardener. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. The Garden is put to bed for the forever winter. As gardeners, we intuitively know there is a time for renewal. There is definite life cycle, sprout, seedling, production, decline, then finally off to the compost heap. Almost two years ago, I started with two blogs, A Midwest Garden. And I Hope You Are Hungry. I have enjoyed every minute of every post, but at times found myself off track and off topic. There are p...

Salmon Roe Caviar…. April 1, 2015. I decided I would use the roe this time as I’ve never done it before with any fish we’ve used to be honest. There were two ways that came upthis was the first. Keeping the roe raw and just brining it and then having it like caviar. Apparently they will keep for a couple of weeks.

Monday, 22 December 2014. This post is not for the faint hearted, and it does contain. Photos and information upon slaughtering and. Butchery of livestock- so if you are sensitive to this I do not advise you continue reading. However I will not apologise for posting it, as we do raise and eat our own produce; livestock and garden, so this is the reality of the lifestyle. Then on the day a well place shot did the job. Keeping the kill and processing onsite. As this minimises stress to the animal prior to ...

Wednesday, 12 March 2014. St David’s Day Celebrations. Dydd gwyl Dewi hapus (Happy St. David’s Day). Well the weekends spit pig was (thankfully) a great success. After postponing it a few weeks ago due to cyclones, poor weather and people being away we decided we would aim for Saturday 1. Of March. As not only was that officially the first day of here but it is St. David’s Day. SO this year in addition to our traditional faggots and welshcakes; faggots are a rissole/meatball made of pigs liver, onions an...

Thursday, 28 August 2014. Chick health… well poultry in general. Regardless of the species their needs, particularly in the early stages are very similar. We quite often get questions about how to look after young birds. Whether it is from people buying birds from us, or just general ‘chicken rearing questions’ so I thought as I was setting up the brooder; I’d address a few. And obviously being clean. However as a general we incubate and raise the chicks in a brooder- shelter. Our brooder is a converted ...

Tuesday, 4 August 2015. Eatwells'; Heritage tablebirds. Eatwells' Heritage Style tablebirds. W ell our new ‘Eatwells’ have arrived; the heritage style meat chickens I struggled to source. There are a few producers hat are developing lines such as these, however they are generally only available to free range farms that meet a set of criteria. Other than not being commercial, our biggest downfall to most of these is our regional location. The syndicate purchase- all collected within a few days. We have ra...

Maes-y-Delyn: July 2015
http://www.maes-y-delyn.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 14 July 2015. Still waiting for our pullets to lay. So how long should you wait for a chicken to lay? We had (until Christmas last year) a Wellsummer hen that was still consistently laying 3 eggs a week at 7 years of age; she was an original from suburbia, and was a pet more than anything- but she earned her keep. So Sunday evening I waited until they had gone in to roost and moved them- no they were no too impressed. This morning we had two eggs! Especially as I have just ordered a couple of bo...
