An in-depth interview about #ifAfricawasaBar – siyandawrites.com
http://siyandawrites.com/2015/07/29/an-in-depth-interview-about-ifafricawasabar
I didn't come here to be governable. An in-depth interview about #ifAfricawasaBar. This week I started a hashtag that went viral. I asked African Twitter users to answer the question: If Africa was* a bar, what would your country be drinking/doing? I decided to post the complete interview here. Please enjoy! How was the hashtag. Can the “Internet panafricanism” be the new link between Africans? Is Panafricanism an idea that can be adopted by young people in Africa? Pan-Africanism is simply an idea that p...

I didn't come here to be governable. EVENT Nordic-Africa Institute Celebrates 20 Years of SA Democracy. It was by a happy internet coincidence that I found out about the Nordic Africa Institute event celebrating twenty years of South African democracy. I’d spent an afternoon googling a number of keyword combinations, including: Africa Finland Society , Southern African Scandinavia Group ,. And Nordic Africa Association. Beginning with the traditional two-thirty PM coffee I’d grown accustomed to in my sho...

I didn't come here to be governable. You know you’re an African writer if…. You are currently reading this because this was the last page you had open when your internet stopped working. Has absolutely no qualms with murdering the cousins of comedians. While they sit safely in their homes. For years, some African journalists have found the world of unlimited information a distraction, really, from the business of creation. Who needs the internet when you have an imagination? Beyonce, Democracy and the Media we deserve – siyandawrites.com
http://siyandawrites.com/2014/11/26/beyonce-democracy-and-the-media-we-deserve
I didn't come here to be governable. Beyonce, Democracy and the Media we deserve. Somehow, Beyonce’s latest music video release — a sloppy mix of bathroom selfies and dancing-on-a-hotel-balcony-in-a-pantie shots called “7/11”– got me thinking about democracy. The music video and its sloppiness , the crowd-pleasing lows of it, the commonness. When we celebrated excellence and talent and hard work, we got excellent, talented, hard-working Beyonce. When we celebrated mediocrity we got 7/11. Beyonce is only ...

No Harm No Waste. Tasty Tuesdays – Sausage, Veggies and Gravy. August 5, 2015. Firstly, I’m a day late with this. Sorry. Secondly, this is not a fancy recipe. But it’s yummy. Also, there’s no “formal” recipe for this. Sorry again…. So, here goes:. Sausage, Veggies and Gravy. Sausages of your choice (I used Fry’s Family Spicy Sausage). 2 Onions, chopped chuncky (Remember, it was the onions I craved. Feel free to use less). BBQ Spice of your choice and Bisto. This is my playground. Monthly Archives: September 2016. For You have maintained my right and my cause;. You sat on the throne judging in righteousness. You have rebuked the nations,. You have destroyed the wicked;. You have blotted out their name forever and ever. O enemy, destructions are finished forever! And you have destroyed cities;. Even their memory has perished. But the Lord shall endure forever;. He has prepared His throne for judgment. He shall judge the world in righteousness,. Psalms 9 v 4-8.
The delightful drunk – Woman Dreamer

February 24, 2015. February 24, 2015. His arms were fleshy and long, an unusual combination, suggesting a giant of a man. I noticed his upper limbs when he lifted them up and for a moment, I was terrified. We are being carjacked, I thought. How daring! It was hardly dark, the sun was just setting in the horizon, still too bright for the eye. I wondered why everyone else seemed so calm, and for another scary moment, I doubted my sanity. Kigocho (Kikuyu praise music). I’m very pleased at this matatu&...
I am not my clothes, damn it! – Woman Dreamer

I am not my clothes, damn it! I am not my clothes, damn it! November 18, 2014. November 26, 2014. I visited a friend in Kilifi last year, a small coastal town, lovely in all ways with clean white beaches and friendly tuk tuk drivers. We went to the market to shop for dinner and found this bare – chested old lady, possibly in her nineties, selling vegetables and coconuts. Nothing in her demeanor suggested shame or indecency. Not illiterate at all! For those using the Bible in support of your hate, refrain!
