San Jose Budget Update

San Jose Budget Update. Monday, June 20, 2011. Why I Voted Against the Budget. Last week I decided to vote against the 2011-2012 Proposed Operating Budget. Here’s why. San Jose Budget Update: Transportation and Aviation Services

http://sjdistrict2.blogspot.com/2011/05/transportation-and-aviation-services.html

San Jose Budget Update. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Transportation and Aviation Services. One of the biggest ongoing issues is our ability to compete with San Francisco International Airport and Oakland International Airport. In order to do so, our airport must be cost efficient while providing quality customer service. The greatest challenge in accomplishing this continues to be maintaining and operating the new state-of-the-art facilities with deeply reduced staffing levels. As for our roadways, the outlook...

San Jose Budget Update. Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Police Officers Approve New Contract with the City. I was very pleased to learn that earlier this morning, the SJPOA (the union representing San Jose’s police officers) voted to agree to a new contract with the City. The contract includes a 10 percent pay cut. After being informed of the POA’s approval, the City Council quickly and unanimously voted to approve the deal. Have questions about the Budget? Today’s blog entry will focus on one of the most important City Service Areas (CSAs): Neighborhood Services, which includes, among other things, libraries, park facilities, community centers, and aspects of the City’s Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement Department. As I have mentioned in previous posts, all CSAs and City departments are facing significant cuts, including Neighborhood Services. 8226; Recreational swim fees will be increased by $0.50, ...

San Jose Budget Update: Public Safety

http://sjdistrict2.blogspot.com/2011/05/public-safety.html

San Jose Budget Update. Thursday, May 19, 2011. In my previous post, I mentioned how the budget is broken down into six City Service Areas (see the prior post below). This blog entry deals with one of the most important CSAs—Public Safety, which includes the police department, the fire department, and the independent police auditor. Beginning with police, it is important to note that last year, we avoided laying off 62 officers with “one-time funds.” The term “one-time funds” ...The proposed budget conce...
