Saturday, June 28, 2014. Sketching at the University of the Philippines. The group met up at the Quezon Hall behind the Oblation statue, UP's most famous landmark and its iconic symbol. The statue is a bronze replica of the original concrete statue made by National Artist Guillermo E. Tolentino. The 3.5-meter replica was recast under the artist's supervision in 1950, 11 years after the original was made. It's no wonder that many of the sketchers chose to draw the Oblation. Friday, August 28, 2015. USk PH August Sketchwalk @ STREAT Food Park. There was a typhoon during the days leading to this month's sketchwalk, but rains couldn't stop the Philippine sketchers from spending the afternoon at StrEat, a food park located at Maginhawa Street in Quezon City. Thank goodness for the canopy over the main food park area. Of course, one must never go out during rainy season without an umbrella! Full sketchbooks and full bellies. On the afternoon of February 21, the Philippine Urban Sketchers made their way to Binondo in Manila, considered to be the oldest Chinatown in the world. It was already a hub of Chinese commerce before it was established in 1594 by the Spanish colonizers as a settlement for the immigrant Chinese who converted to Catholicism.
