July on the Isle of Skye. My first Burnet moth of the year, but too windy for a photograph, so this is one from last year. Aphids on Centaurea nigra. A bumper crop in the moth trap this morning, with more than ten different species. Common Blue - female). Walking from Elgol to Kilmarie. A trip to the mainland with the U3A Nature Group. March on the Isle of Skye. 3 March 2014 . . . . Went for a walk up the Kylerhea road and recorded 27 plant species. Sadly none of them were in flower. Did find a couple of things to photograph, however. In the afternoon a quick visit to the beach produced a nice scallop shell. 7 March 2014 . . . . Spring has arrived, though it doesn't feel like it! 23 March 2014 . . . . Heard my first Skylark of the year today, on the way to photograph this fungus (found when out walking the dog recently).

May on the Isle of Skye. 7 May 2015 . . . . Wintry showers today, but still a few flowers around and even the odd insect. Small fly as yet unidentified. 9 May 2015 . . . . Plenty of Grasshopper Warblers around today - first time I've heard them this year. Started my butterfly recording for the year with a trip to Leitir Fura and saw Orange Tip, Speckled Wood, Green-veined White and Peacock. 10 May 2015 . . . . June on the Isle of Skye. 3 June 2014 . . . . Great excitement when I went out to examine the moth trap this morning - my first hawkmoth! There were actually two of them - male and female. Had five other new species as well: Small Angle Shades, Lunar Thorn, Fox Moth, Buff-tip, Broom Moth. Later I went out to check on our best local site for Northern Marsh Orchid, and found some quite well advanced. 4 June 2014 . . . .
