How do we play this game? Just a list of things that happens to me from day to day. January 6, 2013. Okay, it took me awhile to finish those Japan entries. What have I been up to in the nine months since getting back? I've been doing a lot of things with my girlfriend, who, out of concerns about privacy, did not want her name or photo published. I've managed to assemble a list of our activities without divulging her name or likeness. In April we went on a lovely White House garden tour:. With the Japan a...

Apparently, the other stars at the ceremony included Vice President Cheney and Secretaries Rumsfeld and Rice, but I didn't see any of them because they had been sitting down on the stage and we didn't have a high enough vantage point to see them. How do we play this game? Just a list of things that happens to me from day to day. March 31, 2012. My return trip to Washington was uneventful. I got to the airport with plenty of time to spare, and had an unremarkable layover in Toronto, which was actually my first time in Canada. I had an amazing time in Japan. The places I visited and the experiences I made will stay with me forever. There are just so many unforgettable sights, sounds, and tastes that I managed to cram into two weeks.

How do we play this game? Just a list of things that happens to me from day to day. March 30, 2012. Ushiku is a small town but it does have one big attraction: the Ushiku Daibutsu. It’s a statue of Buddha that is twice as tall as the Statue of Liberty. It is enormous. The statue was completed in 1993; my guess it was planned in the late 1980’s, when Japan was flush with economic success and could fund huge projects like this one. And is this ever huge. And I even saw a Wallaby! We enjoyed lunch at a trad...

How do we play this game? Just a list of things that happens to me from day to day. October 23, 2011. Last weekend I traveled to New Orleans to visit my friend Eliot and to see the city before he moves back to Philadelphia next month. I planned the trip with my friend Robert, who came down to New Orleans from Philadelphia on the same weekend. So Eliot lived about 30 minutes of “bump. bump. bump.” away from the city. The three of us and Eliot’s roommate, Wei, spent most of the day on Saturday in New...

I found Justin's class - he welcomed me in, briefly introduced me to the class, and continued teaching math to his sixth graders while I sat in back and watched. Fortunately for him, he only teaches math, and only to sixth graders, which keeps the lesson planning to a minimum. Justin finishing some work before we leave. If Justin were a student, he'd have run through all of these already. Onto 12th Ave...
