Spike Lee's Joints 2

Spike Lee's Joints 2. May 15, 2016. When I first watched. Get on the Bus,. I laughed out loud when I saw Isaiah Washington’s character. The laughter come from a place of being confused about his identity as a black gay republican and a vague memory of watching Grey’s Anatomy when I was in middle school. Kyle is “a man’s man” but all of the black stereotypes about gay men only become more apparent when the bus learns of his relationship with another man. Spike Lee's Joints 2. Motherly Trumpet: The symbolic relationship between Bleek’s mother and his trumpet. May 15, 2016. From the beginning, with his mother standing over him, the trumpet becomes symbolic of Bleek’s mother’s presence/love. In fact, is it a leap to say that keeping the trumpet on his mouth was Bleek’s language of love with his mother? Mo’ Better Blues, An Old Commentary by Bill Benzon. May 15, 2016 at 8:38 pm. Closing Credits (and Thoughts) – Spike Lee's Joints 2

Spike Lee's Joints 2. Closing Credits (and Thoughts). May 15, 2016. May 15, 2016. For my final blog post, I thought that it would be appropriate to revisit an earlier response regarding Spike Lee’s credit scenes. As Professor Drabinski often noted in class, Spike Lee’s closing credit sequences often have meaning beyond merely giving credit to those involved in the film. They act as thematic periods at the end of the films’ sentences, denouements that reiterate core values of the film. Get on the Bus.

Spike Lee's Joints 2. May 15, 2016. May 15, 2016. One of the things I notice continually in many of Spike Lee’s films was the ways that he showed conflict resulting from people’s differences and multiplicities. These differences make people human, a fact that has to be underlined in American society. But however, in the context of black life in America, does this natural, human conflict also prevent racial uplift? Confronting “Well Meaning” Racists. May 4, 2016. May 4, 2016. Get on the Bus.
