A Philosopher in a Tree: cambodian smackdown
http://sichuanbick.blogspot.com/2009/04/cambodian-smackdown.html
A Philosopher in a Tree. An account of my experiences. Wednesday, April 08, 2009. After checking in and relaxing by the lake until sunset, I decided to get further into the city. I walked down the back alley from my guest house and at about 15 feet from the alley's entrance a dark heavy bass beat begins to strike the brick walls. Echoing and reflecting down this tiny alley, it seems absurd I couldn't hear it from my room. I just hope she sticks with her literary pursuits. View my complete profile.

A Philosopher in a Tree. An account of my experiences. Wednesday, January 16, 2008. Back when I lived in Chengdu, I didn't have to worry about housing. My school provided me with a palatial apartment in the suburbs. Still I quickly noticed the difference in pricing in China. I've decided it's a really cheap apartment instead of a really expensive bed. Tuesday, January 08, 2008. Back in the china. Well, I have arrived. You must forgive me a short sabbatical, as I was back in the States for a bit. Adventur...

The Halfhog: April 2009
http://thehalfhog.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
The home of half-thought-out commentary, half-baked ideas from Kathmandu, Nepal. Sunday, April 26, 2009. All the evils in the world. Below is a picture of a wall painting seen on a school wall near the Indian embassy in Kathmandu. It is done by a group run by a guy I know, Children for Green New Nepal. Beware of acid rain, ozone depletion, middle age spread, the green house effect, toxic land fills, air pollution, climate change, global warming. Children for a Green New Nepal have their work cut out when...

The Halfhog: November 2008
http://thehalfhog.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
The home of half-thought-out commentary, half-baked ideas from Kathmandu, Nepal. Sunday, November 30, 2008. Impossible, nay improbable head-on colision. Of course not. I explained once again that this stupid idiot was riding unlit, in dark clothing, the wrong way down a one way street, more or less in the middle of the road, saw me from a distance and still. Hit me. And now you want me to take him to hospital and pay for treatment? Handlebars and drifted towards Bir. Charged. Then back inside I was a...

The Halfhog: Nepali coffee and how to prepare it
http://thehalfhog.blogspot.com/2010/02/nepali-coffee-and-how-to-prepare-it.html
The home of half-thought-out commentary, half-baked ideas from Kathmandu, Nepal. Saturday, February 20, 2010. Nepali coffee and how to prepare it. So this is the attempt to add a little caffeine boost to the wider public in Kathmandu and beyond. This has not been proven yet as it took around 8 months from placing the order to getting them to Kathmandu. In the coming months, some good Nepali coffee should make its way up to Langtang. Let's see how the tourists like it. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A Philosopher in a Tree: 07/01/2007 - 08/01/2007

A Philosopher in a Tree. An account of my experiences. Sunday, July 29, 2007. After a harrowing night of drinking and hotpot (yes, hotpot) I was informed (again, see the previous post) that I would be traveling to the country on Saturday. Disappointed that I wouldn't be able to sleep in, I woke up hung over for a rollicking, incredibly bumpy ride into the country-side. After a few drinks, we ate lunch for real, which really was delicious.I just didn't quite like the order of the courses. Iver's homes whe...

A Philosopher in a Tree: travel options
http://sichuanbick.blogspot.com/2009/03/travel-options.html
A Philosopher in a Tree. An account of my experiences. Wednesday, March 04, 2009. The basic hard sleeper trip is this—you get on the train, you make friends with your compartment-mates, you eat a meal, lights out at ten, you wake up, share breakfast, and if you’re lucky, you’ve arrived by eleven. . The soft sleeper has none of that. . You get on the train, you get in your bed, you plug in your headphones, you watch tv, some dude turns out the lights. . On my way up to. On a hard sleeper, I often don&#...

A Philosopher in a Tree. An account of my experiences. Friday, April 17, 2009. One night in bangkok (parental guidance suggested) [this is like ira glass saying it on this american life. it's not that dirty, but be warned.]. Then we went to Gulliver's Travels, a bar, for a fellow traveler's birthday. Now, I'm a bit awkward around working girls. I will remind you of a quote from a woman I met at Eric Weisbrod's 21st birthday party: 'What do you think this is, a library? Now upon reflection, I wonder if wh...

A Philosopher in a Tree: oh the malaysians
http://sichuanbick.blogspot.com/2009/03/oh-malaysians.html
A Philosopher in a Tree. An account of my experiences. Monday, March 30, 2009. Instead of burning on the beach today, I decided to take a ride out the other side of town.maybe take some pictures of the landscape, get away from the tourists. I ride out, pedaling furiously, as I do, and I pass a guy who was dressed in the fashion of a Chinese tourist wearing a Beijing Olympics cap. I didn't yell at him, but I wanted to. Then we went to the wharf, where we watched fisherwomen boil herring?
