Laundry Swap!! (Part 1) | Slow Laundry in the City
https://slowlaundryinthecity.wordpress.com/2014/05/15/laundry-swap-part-1
Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. Just a quick post to share how psyched I am about. A big part of why I got into slow laundry was to learn more about my own clothes. But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to learn about. People’s clothes, too. Except for postage.). Cate and I just signed up, and we can’t wait to see what kind of partner we get. Maybe it will be a Tibetan monk who sends us his robe! May 15, 2014. Fill in...

Laundry Swap!. (Part 3) | Slow Laundry in the City
https://slowlaundryinthecity.wordpress.com/2014/07/15/laundry-swap-part-3
Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. This will be my last post about. But Cate has insisted that we stop participating in. Partner failed to wash our son’s cloth diapers often enough (daily), so we requested a new partner. Fair enough (on our part). Every day another big box of white sheets, pillowcases, and towels arrived. I can’t even imagine how many bedrooms and bathrooms this woman has! Click to share on Twitter (O...

Noah, I want you to build an ark. (Part 3) | Slow Laundry in the City

Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. Noah, I want you to build an ark. (Part 3). So, it turns out that the well I dug in our backyard was actually drawing water from a water main that runs under our house. (More specifically, I broke through the water main.). There is good news here and bad news. The good news is that I totally succeeded in digging a functioning, productive well. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Digging my own hole. (Part 1) | Slow Laundry in the City

Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. Digging my own hole. (Part 1). So with the river out, I feel like I’ve only got one option–I’m going to dig a well in our backyard. I bought a pickaxe and shovel at Home Depot, and I’m going to start digging this afternoon. Wish me luck! Apparently my wife is too much of a princess to carry a tub of water from the Anacostia River every morning. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

The Armoire | Slow Laundry in the City
https://slowlaundryinthecity.wordpress.com/2014/08/09/the-armoire
Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. I really believe in the power of laundry to build community and bring people together. That’s why it’s so frustrating that our next door neighbor, Noah, seems to react to our slow laundering in such a hostile and defensive way. I’ll stick with just water, thanks. So we make our own soap. Just another day making soap. Frankly, I’m worried all that lacquer made for sub-par ashes. I sti...

Laundry Swap!? (Part 2) | Slow Laundry in the City
https://slowlaundryinthecity.wordpress.com/2014/05/29/laundry-swap
Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. We just wrapped up our second week as. Is a not-for-profit that connects slow launderers for long-distance laundry exchanges through the mail. It’s like having a pen pal, except instead of reading about an exotic stranger’s faraway life, you’re hand-washing their clothes. So, amazing idea, right? Unfortunately, so far it’s been a little disappointing. S member guidelines say. You are...

Whine-o? | Slow Laundry in the City
https://slowlaundryinthecity.wordpress.com/2014/07/31/whine-o
Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. I think Slow Laundry is all about awareness. To really understand and appreciate your laundry, you have to be fully aware of it you have to be present in the moment, with all your senses attuned to the various stains and smears. That’s why I’m really frustrated that lately, Cate has started drinking wine while she washes our clothes. We could use a little more of this in our house.

Well, well, well. (Part 2) | Slow Laundry in the City
https://slowlaundryinthecity.wordpress.com/2014/07/24/well-well-well-part-2
Slow Laundry in the City. A young urban family's journey to a simpler life through load after load of hand-washed laundry. Well, well, well. (Part 2). I’ve proven the haters wrong (Cate, our neighbor Noah, etc.) who thought I shouldn’t try to dig a well in our backyard. And it’s lucky my well is so bountiful, because coincidentally the water pressure in our house has suddenly dropped to a trickle. Good thing I no longer need to count on the DC Water and Sewer Authority for my water! July 24, 2014. The si...
