Trip Report Mt. Belford 14,197’ August 8-10, 2003 Mark Langston. This trip started well. I left work at 3:30pm alone to go pick a camp for the rest of the gang. I made the drive up with no incident. I had Dinner in Leadville at some hole in the wall, had fish ‘n chips and whiskey. I arrived at the trailhead to find no camping, so I headed back down the road. Saturday, August 14, 2004. North Mount Elbert Trail. 85 Miles Round Trip. 4,650’ Elevation Gain. This is the highest mountain in Colorado and the 2. Highest peak in the lower 48 states. This is a peak I had been avoiding climbing for a long time for some personal reasons, but I’ve since gotten past those and they were quite silly. First let me say that I tried this peak the weekend before. Regretfully, I was dreadfully sick and turned back after a mile. But I got back on the horse and decided to try again.

Mt Sherman 14,036’. Gemini Peak 13,993’. June 5, 2004. I left work at 4 on Friday afternoon, went home, loaded the truck and was on the road to the trailhead by 5pm. I listened to the radio news about some psycho in Granby who modified his D-8 with bullet-proof stainless steel panels and decided to destroy the town. I arrived at the trailhead around 7pm, with about 20 minutes before the sun fell below the ridge above me. Oh well, tourists need a thrill too. The stars came out and were simply amazing.
