The Ugly Evangelical: To Ponder...
http://uglyevangelical.blogspot.com/2009/05/to-ponder.html
I do talk about more than politics. Really! Wednesday, May 27, 2009. What does it mean when upon learning that some leading conservative commentators reached the same conclusion I did about Judge Sotomayor's comments (highlighted in another post), my gut reaction was to think "hey, maybe I reached a bad conclusion? Http:/ abcnews.go.com/Politics/SCOTUS/story? An emotional approach that's not always the best form of reasoning, but that seems to be how I work. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Ugly Evangelical: March 2009
http://uglyevangelical.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
I do talk about more than politics. Really! Monday, March 30, 2009. Military Commissions as Courts? I admit, I was prone to err on the side of trusting the previous administration on this issues - that is to say that when they instituted military commissions, I thought the result would be justice, not theater. And now I admit that the more I hear about the previous administration, the more I am regularly discouraged by what I hear. Wednesday, March 04, 2009. The Pot and the Kettle. The reason we have thi...

The Ugly Evangelical: February 2009
http://uglyevangelical.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
I do talk about more than politics. Really! Friday, February 06, 2009. For the record: I am in favor of one-time spending as stimulus for the economy. I do not think that the Republican plan of lots of tax cuts would be nearly as effective. That said. this plan is so bloated with pure pork. It's obscene and Obama should be ashamed to be trumpeting this as a "the nation faces imminent collapse unless we pass this" bill. Monday, February 02, 2009. Super Bowl and Movies. On Friday night, I went to go see.

Tuesday, May 26, 2009. I was muddled on torture, but this article. Explained to me why a Christian should be against it (and it's a similar reason to why to be against abortion). Also, I'm new to hearing of John Mark Reynolds. But I'm glad folks like him are out there arguing for a more godly culture. Monday, May 18, 2009. On Obama at Notre Dame. When a few protesters interrupted President Obama's speech at the Notre Dame graduation by shouting, "Stop killing our children! Sunday, May 17, 2009. If They K...

Tuesday, February 17, 2009. The Gospel and self-control. So, I've claimed that a Christian's job isn't to be self-controlled (or do any particular work), but to believe in Jesus. But I'm also claiming that believing in Jesus will improve your self-control. Why do we lack self-control? Why do we eat too much, or drink too much, or gossip, or act-out sexually. Is it really because we literally cannot control ourselves? It's the same with Jesus. If we trust Him, we'll control ourselves. If we're fai...A lit...

The Ugly Evangelical: What I saw in Vegas
http://uglyevangelical.blogspot.com/2009/06/what-i-saw-in-vegas.html
I do talk about more than politics. Really! Monday, June 29, 2009. What I saw in Vegas. Last week, I was in Las. Vegas on business. Given the downturn in the economy, we were able to stay on the Strip for $45 a night, which is convenient. For walking to various attractions and restaurants. I was able to enjoy the show of the fountains at the Bellagio, and though I was not able to see the art gallery, I had a pleasant enough evening. I can't really capture in words how sad a picture this lady painted for ...

The Ugly Evangelical: Local Restaurants
http://uglyevangelical.blogspot.com/2009/06/local-restaurants.html
I do talk about more than politics. Really! Wednesday, June 17, 2009. Recently, my Friday night dinner friends and I have broken from our normal routine a little bit to check out some new restaurants. This might not sound all that unusual, except we are all very much creatures of habit. We could go to Chili's every night for a year. So to break from our small litany of chain restaurants is most unusual indeed. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Charity: Food and Water. Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Tuesday, June 09, 2009. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just war. Just War Theory has two sets of criteria. The first establishing jus ad bellum, the right to go to war; the second establishing jus in bello, right conduct within war. While there may be rights and wrongs on all sides of a conflict, to override the presumption against the use of force, the injustice suffered by one party must significantly outweigh that suffered by the other. Some theorists such as Brian Orend. A just War is one that avenges ...
