Pepper in the kitchen. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. - Virginia Woolf. Sunday, September 16, 2012. Apple and Honey Cake. It is Rosh Hashanah in my world, or more precisely the Jewish world at the moment, which is the Jewish new year. It is customary to eat apple dipped in honey to symbolise a sweet new year so, in the spirit of apples, honey, and generally wanting to eat cake, I made an apple and honey cake. 3 cups plain flour. 1 cup caster sugar. Mix it gently ...

Pepper in the kitchen. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. - Virginia Woolf. Monday, May 14, 2012. I found this recipe in a newspaper and these are called Italian Biscuits. I am not sure if they have a proper name like for example the Bourbon has its own name so, Italian Biscuits will have to do. Sorry to any Italians out there. 300g Icing sugar (little extra to help roll the dough). Small knob of butter to grease the baking tray with. When they are done, leave for a ...

Pepper in the kitchen. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. - Virginia Woolf. Monday, November 05, 2012. Portuguese custard tarts = morish nomness. I did not do my own puff pastry (slaps hand), because I did not have the time but I do want to try it! I decided to make six little tarts and one big one as my muffin tin only holds six. I was a little impatient so reuse the same tin so also used a six inch loose bottom sandwich tin as well. Zest of 1 lemon. Over a medium h...

It's not rude. Laquo; The Christmas Dragon Fox Mix-up. Bert finds a Cure. January 29, 2014. 8220;Find me when you wake up.”. It was scrawled on a crumpled up piece of paper Alfonso had in his pocket. He frowned again as his beady-bird eyes slowly drifted over the faded characters on the page, his brain assigning the groups of abstract shapes the sounds in his head that made them into words of the English language. Who was it from? Which one of them had written him that note? DID U GT MY MSG? YES WHO R U?

It's not rude. Laquo; The Mysterious Note. Bert finds a Cure. March 3, 2015. Bert was a normal enough weasel. He was a mammal (source: Wikipedia), and he looked like that weasel from Animals of Farthing Wood. So, pretty standard. He was a nice weasel, he sent everyone at work Christmas cards, he wrote to his mum, and he didn’t skulk away when it was his round at the bar. But Bert had one major flaw: he could not hug. 8220;HOLY BUTTOCKING JESUS! 8221; came a shrill cry, just below his head. 8221; Bert who...

Pepper in the kitchen. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. - Virginia Woolf. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. This recipe is again from Biscuits by Miranda Gore Browne. I picked this one as I do not tend to do chocolate biscuits much but, these looked really nice. I changed the recipe a tiny bit by leaving out the coffee and chilli and if I were to do it again, I would increase the cinnamon a bit to make up it. 175g dark chocolate 70% coca solids. 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon.

Pepper in the kitchen. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. - Virginia Woolf. Monday, February 27, 2012. I am not a big fan of marshmallows to be honest, but I was interested in how they are made so here is my attempt which went rather well, which is nice. They came out delicate in flavour and texture, and they really taste much better than the shop bought ones. 500g of strawberries or 140ml strawberry puree. 125ml water (first batch). 160ml water (second batch). Next ...

Pepper in the kitchen. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well. - Virginia Woolf. Monday, January 30, 2012. I thought I would do a quick how to make custard post as it is really easy to do. I usually prefer cream with my desserts but homemade custard is just what I would call, awesome. It taste so much nicer than the shop bought ones. 2 large egg yolks. 10g cornflour (if you prefer runnier custard reduce or leave out the cornflour). 150ml semi skimmed milk. 1 tsp corn flour.
