When Elma had been on the ship, she had ordered “Kalt Watten” at dinner but the waitress did not understand and brought mineral water. Elma did not write of what she might have seen in Stockholm, as it seemed like she was in a hurry to get back to Finland. She only had a couple more days after returning before her boat to America was scheduled to leave. And so I will share something of what we saw and experienced. Just the beginning of the cherry blossoms in Kungsträdgården, The King’s Garden. Just as we...

zucchini noodles | COTTAGE GROVE HOUSE
https://cottagegrovehouse.com/2015/05/06/zucchini-noodles
May 6, 2015 59 Comments. I’m easily over-stimulated in large department stores, especially ones that involve home and kitchen products. I find it difficult to concentrate and I end up spending way too much time walking the isles in sensory overload. But on this visit I was on a mission. I needed to find a spiralizer and I knew BB&B would have one. 3 medium sized zucchini’s – spiraled or shaved with a vegetable peeler. Large handful fresh parsley (about 1 cup once it is finely chopped). I’m glad to ...

May 11, 2015 59 Comments. This soup transpired from of a conversation in the comment section on my sautéed mushroom post a few weeks ago. The conversation with Johnny. Went like this: “That’s how I like my mushrooms. In fact, to make soup I then just add organic vegetable stock and blitz, add a little cream, adjust the seasoning and viola! So simple.” I responded: “I had no idea mushroom soup could be so easy! I’m surely going to make some.” And I did. 2 pounds cremini mushrooms, cleaned and sliced.

Cauliflower soup with roasted parsnips and chives. June 26, 2015 66 Comments. We sat down to an autumn dinner in the spring! I love a delicious soup any time of the year and having a head of cauliflower and three large parsnips in the refrigerator for the past two weeks was all the influence needed to put this soup together. And of course for my friends living in the Southern Hemisphere, timing for this soup may be just right. 1 cauliflower, broken into florets. 2 large shallots, finely diced. Preheat th...

Spiced Coconut-Pecan Banana Bread (GF) – Curls and carrots

Healthy Food, Family and Food for Thought. Spiced Coconut-Pecan Banana Bread (GF). April 15, 2015. May 4, 2015. I never argue with a naturally sweetened bread that’s also rich in gluten-free whole grains and packs great flavor from strained yogurt and a crisp turbinado sugar crust. This bread in particular is the perfect textural combination of soft, sweet, oh-so-moist cake and salty, crunchy pecans. Lots of oozing, silky goat butter and thick, decadent, raw honey on toasted slices. So wrong, but so ...

June 4, 2015 77 Comments. I encountered some lovely organic tomatillo’s at the market a few weeks ago and brought home more than enough to make this delightful chilaquiles verdes recipe. Turns out I ended up making two batches because it is so good! The recipe below is the oven roasted vegetable version. If you are interested in the fire roasted version, grill your olive oiled vegetables for 15 minutes turning often and make sure to follow the same recipe below for the chicken. Recipe adapted fro...Cup (...
