Saturday, 30 July 2011. From Kuehi we sailed to Fakarava, 32 miles x 15 miles, it is the 2. Largest atoll in the Tuamotus. It was visited in the 19. Century by Matisse and Robert Louis Stevenson. Just before we entered the southern pass we spotted some humpback whales and slowed down to watch one breach right next to the boat. Sadly we were too late getting our cameras out to capture the moment. They were particularly interested in Spiip and swam up, under and through the rudders and around the keel.

Saturday, 18 June 2011. GALLOPING THROUGH THE GALAPAGOS ISLANDS. It’s a lively scene here with sea lions, sharks and spotted eagle rays swimming around us. Frigate birds and pelicans swoop and dive in and out of the water. Lots of water taxis preclude the need for our dinghy but on the first morning one managed to take a chunk out of Spiip's swimming platform, missing both fenders we had just put out; Robin was not happy. Sunday, 5 June 2011. MOVING ON, FINALLY! We were beginning to believe we would be stuck in Panama City forever but today we finally set sail for Las Perlas, a series of islands lying about 30 miles south east. We plan to spend a few days exploring this area before heading off to the Galapagos. The winches eventually arrived by courier on Wednesday night. Wednesday, 20 July 2011. ABAI TO THE MARQUESAS. Warmly welcomed by the few people living around the bay, we exchanged some wine and a jar of tuna for armfuls of grapefruit, breadfruit, mangoes, cucumbers, melons, pomegranates and papaya plucked fresh from their trees.
