http://sedelman.com/p/236/l/281/t/Engines-|-UL-Power

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. The UL Power UL260i appears to be a solid engine. It is a purpose-built full FADEC engine developed in Belgium and capable of developing approx. 97 HP at 3300 RPM and 8:1 standard compression. The UL260is develops 107HP at 3300RPM, but runs at 9:1 compression. Typical long term engine reliability is proportional to the compression ratio, where higher compression ratio decreases the MTBF. A review of the NTSB accident database for the UL Power engines revealed a single...

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. All that remains now is to debur, polish and prime the ribs and to rivet the bottom portion of the elevator. The top portion will have to remain cleco-ed until the MD-RA inspection is complete. Tail - Horizontal Stablizer. I worked on installing the left hinge on the horizontal stabilizer today. I again used the elevator as a guide and added the end-stop to ensure everything is flush with the edge of the stabilizer. Tail - Horizontal Stablizer. The longest rib did not...

Tail - Horizontal Stablizer. I worked on installing the left hinge on the horizontal stabilizer today. Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. Tail - Vertical Stabilizer. I finally riveted the left side of the veritcal stabilizer. I also attached the fiberglass tip. The fiberglass tip is actually snug against the leading edge of the vertical stablizer skin without any gap, but the skin on the other side is open making it look like there's a gap. Tail - Vertical Stabilizer. I'm ready to rivet one side of the vertical stabilizer, but I'm waiting on feedback from Kerry at Sonex to find out if it is acceptable t...

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. I built two EAA work benches according to the official plans (click here. I ended up buying a lot of tools. I strongly believe that you need the right tools for the job otherwise the build process could get more frustrating than it needs to be. You could probably do with less. Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. I completed the rudder today. This involved deburring the edges and the #30 holes of the ribs as well as skins, and of course, cleaning and priming the parts. The skins were primed where it comes into contact with the ribs. I riveted the long side of the rudder, so it would still be easy to open up the skins for the pre-cover inspection. This is required for Canadian amateur built aircraft (click here. Ribs deburred, sanded and cleaned with alcohol and then primed.

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log | Engines | Jabiru

http://sedelman.com/p/239/l/280/t/Engines-|-Jabiru

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. The Jabiru 3300 is a 120HP purpose-built aircraft engine officially supported by Sonex. This appears a solid engine overall and it often a choice by Sonex builders who want the additional power. However, I have reviewed a number of Sonex build logs and have come up with the following observations:. High CHT temperatures, even after break in. Requirement to frequenty re-torque the heads/bolts. Front Cylinder head must be cut to fit cowling. Alodine 1201 Application Note.

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. All that remains now is to debur, polish and prime the ribs and to rivet the bottom portion of the elevator. The top portion will have to remain cleco-ed until the MD-RA inspection is complete. Now that both the left and right elevators are done, the next step is to line them up and attach the control horn. This will require that I use my 8ft workbench. The next step is to work on the left elevator. I ended up drilling out the 3 bad rivets. I had to use a wrench t...

http://sedelman.com/p/231/l/273/t/About-the-Builder

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. I was particularly troubled by Zenair's position with respect to the accidents. The company insisted that if the builder had built the plane to the manufacturer's specifications, that areodynamic flutter would not result in a catastrophic breakup. This sounded a bit like:. The decision to toss the Zodiac as a serious option came after reviewing the FAA Special Report. The manufacturer’s analysis used an assumption that the lift distribution has a purely elliptic...

Stephan's Sonex #1627 Builder's Log. I settled on the LT3759. This is an MSOP package chip and available in the industrial temperature range (-40°C to 125°C). This is important, as I may decide to have the MCU firewall-forward, as it will be easier to connect the thermocouples and other sensors this way. The output of the SEPIC controller is the green line. You can see it is fairly steady at 12V regardless of the input voltage. The noise is approx. 400mV p-p at a frequency of 300kHz. Sonex 1362 | Building An Experimental Airplane

Building An Experimental Airplane. What Is A Sonex? Conventional vs Nose Gear. Hello, Welcome to Dan and Tim’s website/blog on plans building a Sonex airplane. Plans building means we have a set of prints that detail the parts we need to fabricate and how to assemble them into an aircraft. We buy sheetmetal aluminum and start cutting and bending it to make parts. Our website is a work in progress. The top menu bars will take you to some interesting (at least to us) topics for building an airplane.

Today we picked up some toys for the tractor. They only cost us the gas to go get them. Some of them need some work, but the price was right. We got a scraper blade, disc, harrow and sickle mower.
