Rooftop Art Space: Marcus Carne 'East to West' Monday 31st March to Friday 25th April 2014
http://rooftopartspace.blogspot.com/2014/05/marcus-carne-east-to-west-monday-31st.html
Friday, 23 May 2014. Marcus Carne 'East to West' Monday 31st March to Friday 25th April 2014. We are so happy to exhibit Marcus Carne's latest show East to West. It is a killer! Thanks Marcus, it was a pleasure! In Marcus’s recent work he attempts to explore notions of industrial waste as both a personal means to relinquish control from his usual meticulous practice and in the broader sense re-contextualise discarded building materials to apply new meaning to found waste. Marcus Carne is a Melbourne base...

Rooftop Art Space: April 2013

Friday, 26 April 2013. Dyana Gray "Chemistry" 1st April - 28th April. Chemistry was at play indeed on the night of the 1st. With a perfectly orchestrated sunset as a backdrop, Dyana's show opened to a large turnout of adoring fans. Dyana's work is filled with dry humour, a genuine love of the human figure and an instinct with colour that betrays the simplicity of her ink and watercolour images. We have greatly enjoyed having Dyana at the rooftop, the space is flourishing. Dyana obtained a Bachelor of Fin...

Rooftop Art Space: November 2013

Saturday, 23 November 2013. James Little "If I Had A Heart" 14th October - 9th November 2013. For those of you who are familiar with James' work you will notice that this body of work is a little different. James decided to experiment with colour and also test a slightly new direction for his work in this show. That's what this space can be ideal for, exploring new ground in your work and to gauge the reading and reception of it.one can step outside the box, so to speak. The obsession of personal dwellin...

Rooftop Art Space: January 2014
http://rooftopartspace.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Friday, 17 January 2014. Nell Pearson "Boots" 9th December - 4th January. My attraction to this approach is related to an interest in Zen Buddhism, Tao and the I Ching and other philosophical or spiritual systems organised on the basis of surrendering control. Within that there is the notion of improvisation as a way to transcend intention, to welcome chance interferences so that as the work is a kind of discovery. Melissa Wilson "Cut, Removed Exposed" 11th November - 7th December 2013. Melissa Wilson is...

Saturday, 2 March 2013. Ro Noonan "Pretty, Ordinary Constructions" 4th February - 3rd March. The night of the 4th saw the extremely well attended opening of Ro Noonan's wonderful new show. Truly original and beautiful works using timber, acrylic and various plastics were installed to great effect in our boxes. The subtlety and modesty in Ro's work comforts the viewer. In using familiar materials in unconventional ways there is a melding of history and the inevitable future all at once. The Rooftop Art Sp...

Wednesday, 9 October 2013. Adam Seymour "G-Force" 19th August - 14th September. This month RAS hosted Adam Seymour and his collection of private/not-so-private works inspired by the colourful pages of smartphone based hookup site GRINDR. Along with his beautiful watercolour works on paper he included the back and forth conversations from the relevant parties giving the viewer a wonderful insight to his subjects. Thanks Adam! My work in mixed media embraces themes of sex, humour and satire. I also exp...

Rooftop Art Space: Kirsty and Tom hang up their screwdrivers.
http://rooftopartspace.blogspot.com/2014/06/kirsty-and-tom-hang-up-their.html
Saturday, 14 June 2014. Kirsty and Tom hang up their screwdrivers. The time has come for us to end our stewardship of Rooftop Art Space, it has truly been a wonderful experience. Running an unconventional art space has been a great challenge but an incredibly rewarding one nonetheless. Exhibiting the work of both emerging and established Melbourne artists to such a broad audience has been an absolute pleasure and we hope we have contributed to the wealth of talent and beauty this city is so famous for.
