Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Sunday, January 29, 2012. I Shall Wear Midnight by Terry Pratchett. It took me a while to get around to this one because the Tiffany Aching. Books have never been my favorite Discworld series. But I was really surprised with this one. Maybe because Tiffany's older in this one (sixteen, I think, or almost sixteen), the book has a darker, more sophisticated tone. Reviews by KC Shaw. January 30, 2012 at 11:05 AM. Skunk Cat Book Reviews: October 2011
http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Monday, October 31, 2011. This was a total impulse buy. I just got paid and I was in the book store, saw a book by Penn Jillette about atheism, and thought, "Hey, sounds fun! I was expecting an interesting, thoughtful, funny discussion of Penn's atheism and how it's affected his life. In short, it's a wankery of a memoir, not at all what I expected. I was disappointed, since it's not entertaining enough as a memoir and not intelligent enough as a discussion of atheism. I w...To in...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: Beyond the Grave by Mara Purnhagen
http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/beyond-grave-by-mara-purnhagen.html
Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Thursday, January 26, 2012. Beyond the Grave by Mara Purnhagen. This is the last book in this series, which consists of three actual books and two novellas that take place between the books' events. I didn't read the second novella, since I found the first one. I have read the other two books, though. I really liked the first one, Past Midnight. And was disappointed with the second, One Hundred Candles. The problems that I saw in the second book are still present in this one, unfo...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: Gemini Bites by Patrick Ryan
http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/01/gemini-bites-by-patrick-ryan.html
Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Saturday, January 28, 2012. Gemini Bites by Patrick Ryan. I think this is what you might call the highest of all high concept novels. It's a lot of fun, too. The story is told from both twins' points of view in alternating chapters. Kyle is a nice guy, and Judy is not very nice at all- but she's an oddly sympathetic character. And Garret is fascinating. Compendium of the Curious. Writings, Thoughts, Meta, Musings and Reviews concerning all things geeky and weird…. Testing, Testing…. I’m an ageing fanboy from the right hand side of the Pond who can’t keep his opinions to himself. I grew up on things like (classic). And a slew of other genre literature, film and television. I welcome the current ascendancy of geek culture while also having grave misgivings about various aspects of it. July 26, 2015. Happy 50 Year Mission! More Star Strategy …. V(otum) S(o...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: June 2011
http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html
Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Saturday, June 25, 2011. Magic by the Lake by Edward Eager. This review will be short. I apologize for that. I'd go into why, but this isn't my personal blog. I love Edward Eager's books, particularly Half Magic. Which Magic by the Lake. Is a sequel to. Eager's style is purposefully similar to E. Nesbit, which he greatly admired, and his stories are charming, clever, inventive, and funny, with realistic children and magic that has unexpected consequences. Links to this post. Also ...

Skunk Cat Book Reviews: July 2011
http://skunkcatbookreviews.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Skunk Cat Book Reviews. Friday, July 29, 2011. Hammered by Kevin Hearne. This is the third book in this series, which I've enjoyed a lot so far. I like that the first three books, which form a sort of trilogy, were published in successive months. There will be a wait for the next book, but I can handle it. Follows up on the promises made in the previous two books,. Anyway, the book is still a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the next one. Links to this post. Reviews by KC Shaw. Not this one....
