One life, many adventures!: August 2011
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
One life, many adventures! Tuesday, August 23, 2011. I make a fair number of business trips to the Salt Lake City area. It's just a beautiful location, with the Wasatch Mountains overlooking the valley. I've been meaning to go hiking out here but either the weather or my schedule never allowed for it. With the Mt. Whitney hike coming up this weekend I decided to see if I could sneak in an after-work hike while I'm out here this week. Air doesn't seem to affect me much, and before long I've finished the m...

One life, many adventures!: How I spent my summer vacation, Part 1
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2013/09/how-i-spent-my-summer-vacation-part-1.html
One life, many adventures! Saturday, September 21, 2013. How I spent my summer vacation, Part 1. We flew to Ecuador to learn more about being frugal". Hmmm, somehow that description doesn't quite resonate. The irony police might issue a warrant. Since essentially the day I signed up for this trip I've struggled to explain exactly what we were attending. The seminar we attended was described as being a "week-long Chautauqua where we'll discuss happiness, freedom and wealth". Here's a link. Was about the r...

One life, many adventures! Thursday, September 8, 2011. More details to come, but I put together a picture slideshow of our adventure on Mt. Whitney, along with a video I took at the summit. A truly remarkable day, full of challenges, struggles, and 6 successful summitteers. http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? A short video of the first view of the summit http:/ www.youtube.com/watch? And another one at the ridge crest, looking down the face of the mountain. http:/ www.youtube.com/watch?

One life, many adventures!: September 2013
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
One life, many adventures! Tuesday, September 24, 2013. From essentially the instant I landed in Ecuador I was on a mission. I am an occasional, unsophisticated cigar smoker. I can't handle the Swisher Sweet type, but truth be told I probably couldn't tell the difference between a $2 and a $20 cigar. Nevertheless, I appreciate the opportunity to sample life's delicacies when they present themselves. A fellow A's fan. Hypothetically speaking, of course, I'm saving this cigar to celebrate the impending bir...

One life, many adventures!: July 2011
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
One life, many adventures! Friday, July 29, 2011. All men have to do is just think about losing weight. It's so much easier for them". Anyway, after 5 weeks of this I've dropped the 8 pounds I wanted to lose and am back under 150 lbs, which is good for a short guy. I've considered celebrating by going to Outback Steakhouse and pounding down a Blooming Onion and a platter of Baby Back Ribs. I suppose I should. After all, losing weight is so easy for men. Tanzania says "come for a visit". That exchange fro...

One life, many adventures!: Human Pincushion
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2011/08/human-pincushion.html
One life, many adventures! Monday, August 8, 2011. So it turns out that tropical Africa has some pretty nasty diseases. I knew we'd have to get some inoculations before going over there, but I wasn't quite prepared for the variety. After my second visit, and 5th injection, I told the receptionist "I don't really like coming here. Every time I do I get stabbed. Repeatedly". She thought that was amusing. I wasn't sure I was kidding. In the end we settled on this list to be treated for. The good news is tha...

One life, many adventures!: Our Day with the Elephants
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2015/06/our-day-with-elephants.html
One life, many adventures! Sunday, June 14, 2015. Our Day with the Elephants. I've never ridden a horse. At 53 years old that is actually embarrassing. That search led us to the Ran-Tong Elephant Center. We made our way to the watering hole, which Mae Noi entered with us on her back. She then "Melong"ed, and allowed us to hop off. After a bath in the watering hole, and a hose-off at the garden hose. We then went for another short ride and posed for a group photo. June 14, 2015 at 3:31 PM. I am living pro...

One life, many adventures!: February 2012
http://unclecrampy.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
One life, many adventures! Sunday, February 26, 2012. I'm not feeling real optimistic as we start off. It's already been a rough night. We got to base camp in the early afternoon at 15,000 feet. Just the simplest tasks make me feel like I'm breathing through a straw. I unpack my duffel and have to lay down to catch my breath. Walking the 30 yards from my tent to the mess tent makes me double over. Silt that blew into my sealed tent. After a few false starts we finally begin the summit climb. Robert h...
