However, once I saw the roof of the cabin peeking out from the fenceline, my energy levels rose since our stay was in the middle of ocean ridges and the Waianae range in front. I wanted to take my little brother and cousin straight to the Glider launch pad this past Saturday because I knew it would be a very short yet scenery hike for them. I thought of getting a kite so the two kids won't be as bored when we hit the spot. I parked my car way up high in Hawaii Kai. Erik decided to take Amanda, Christian, me, Wilbur, Lee, and Brianne up Haihaione with a short crossover to the left, and down Kuliouou ridge. It was a short hike actually only taking us about 3 hours. Haihaione ridge is accessed deep in Hawaii Kai and at a high elevation. This hike is excellent if you want a very short crossover hike. Since I finished class early once again, I met up with Erik at Kala'au place in Hawaii Kai. We decided to hike Kuliou'ou in a loop starting up West ridge, then crossing the summit, passing Pu'u O Kona, and exiting out the East trail (also known as the state Kuliou'ou ridge trail). It was gorgeous! We went up and up the ridge. There would sometimes be a grove of Strawberry guava trees.
