CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Saturday, 12 January 2013. Wednesday 9th Jan 2013, first ride of the year. I'd made all the preparations for a typically rainy day the night before. Hunted around the house for kit that had not been worn in 3 months. Where are my overshoes; where's my helmet cover? Here's the full list of my requirements before I would be happy to ride:. Long sleeved base layer. CO2 pump and cartridges. Hand class was good, I was pleased I'd made the effort, and hearing the reactions of the "in...

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS: December 2012
http://jim-harwood.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Saturday, 29 December 2012. Start From Where You Are. Start from where you are, not where you want to be." is the first bit of advice any personal trainer or physiotherapist worth their salt will give you, and as advice goes, it's about as sound as it gets. It applies both physically and mentally, but of course, it involves a degree of acceptance on your part. I'm not where I want to be at the moment. I've been off my bike for over 3 months, one of the longest times ever. A fri...

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS: 1st January 2013
http://jim-harwood.blogspot.com/2013/01/1st-january-2013.html
CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Tuesday, 1 January 2013. Peace be with you in this New Year. A day of mixed emotions, bikewise. My broken left wrist cannot find a comfortable rest on my lovely, unusual, leather clad Randonneur bars (On-One Midge). So they have to come off, to be replaced with boring, predictable flat bars taken from my wife's Specialized Vita, which now has butterfly bars (which may be the way to go for me, we're still experimenting.). I have also added my Airstryke Aero bars.

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS: What Am I Doing?
http://jim-harwood.blogspot.com/2012/06/what-am-i-doing.html
CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Tuesday, 26 June 2012. What Am I Doing? Tiverton, a Devon Market Town. 11.30pm, Saturday night. The Police are busy with the tipout of the local pubs and bars, when through town comes a spread-out line of cyclists. They all have good lights, maps, routesheets and head torches on their helmets. As I come through, at the rear of the line, curiosity has got the better of one of them. What are you lot doing? He asks me, with a touch of incedulity in his voice. Is it for charity?

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Thursday, 16 February 2012. First Audax (Final Part). Above, or at any rate not here, you have the factual account of my trip to my first Audax and back. But, what of it? I guess the questions you're asking are:. What did I get from it? Will I be doing it again? All these answers and more below. Why did I not just get myself over to Leicester the easy way and just do the ride? While there is always a challenge in riding a 60 mile organised ride, I don't find it. I woke around 7...

CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS: November 2011
http://jim-harwood.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
CYCLING BACK TO HAPPINESS. Wednesday, 16 November 2011. Surly Cross Check and a change of life. I have new pedals on order, and when my brake levers are fitted, some lovely new blue bartape. Around the time I built my bike, my friend Pete bought a Sabbath titanium frame and built up his "dream bike" - 11 speed Campag Record (my old Dura Ace hub had a 6 speed freewheel block! We go out riding regularly, and he's talking about building up "something like mine.". Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
