http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2015/07/2015-bear-lake-monster-race-report.html
Monday, July 20, 2015. 2015 Bear Lake Monster Race Report. The day before the annual Bear Lake Monster race, a group of us: Josh, Chad, Sarah and myself planned to swim a double width crossing (with Josh and I splitting it so we each only swam one width while the other pilots for the team). However fate was not on our side as Chad drove in with a busted bearing on his boat trailer. We. I shared this information with the field of swimmers to their applause and also gave them the warning that if their padd...

Gords Swim Log: My Manhattan Island Marathon Swim experience
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2014/06/my-manhattan-island-marathon-swim.html
Sunday, June 15, 2014. My Manhattan Island Marathon Swim experience. I was the first one there. The volunteers were still setting up the tent. I was about an hour early. What else was I gonna do? The hotel was the other direction and I figured I'd get to meet and talk with some other swimmers. Met Javier Merida, a very successful swimmer from Spain who has swam the Strait of Gibralter and the English Channel. Cathi took this picture from the boat. There was enough time. Pic taken by David Barra. Got pump...

Gords Swim Log: English Channel Qualifier - Black Rock to White Rock 21.7 Mile Swim in 10:59
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2011/06/english-channel-qualifier-black-rock-to.html
Wednesday, June 1, 2011. English Channel Qualifier - Black Rock to White Rock 21.7 Mile Swim in 10:59. I have been training for this moment for months! I have had a little countdown timer on my home page that I saw everyday. It did a countdown back when it was like 180 days left. It kept it constantly on my mind everyday as a goal that I needed to continue to train and work towards. It was exciting seeing it get down to a handful of days left. Cathi applying tons of Channel Grease to my trouble spots.

Gords Swim Log: Lynette's workout
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2015/07/lynettes-workout.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. Last night I donated a pint of blood and was told to avoid any exercise for the rest of the night which meant my evening swim I was hoping to get in, was off. This morning I swam with SDM. This is the second swim for the week with them which I haven't done in a long time. Swam with Jeff and Kia again. I was curious if the lack of blood would affect my performance. Not noticeably. Here's the workout:. 8 x 50's odd scull/free by 25, even kick no board. 4 x 100 IMs :15 rest. Happily m...

Gords Swim Log: Fourth of July at Bear Lake
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2015/07/fourth-of-july-at-bear-lake.html
Saturday, July 4, 2015. Fourth of July at Bear Lake. This morning I met Chad at the Bear Lake Marina beach and got Lucy and Sam to paddle for us. Chad also got his boys to paddle so we had two kayaks and oddly enough we didn't encounter many other boats during the swim. Maybe 2 boats and 1 jetski came within 200 yards of us and that was it. On the way to the lake I asked the boys to rub sunscreen on each other, and apparently Sam didn't obey and he got burned pretty bad. Lesson learned. If you live in Ut...

Gords Swim Log: Fremont Island Swim
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2010/07/fremont-island-swim.html
Saturday, July 24, 2010. But not the case with my swim. We started off at 11:56 am. The water felt comfortable and not overly hot, even though it came in at 83 degrees. It took 3:19 to go 6.7 miles including feedings so I met the 2 mph threshold. We landed and immediately set up camp. We did alot of exploring and found that the island is covered (at least where ever there is sagebrush) with humongous spiders. Here's the video summary of our trip. Total Swim: 12.9 miles. Fremont Island has been the home to.

Gords Swim Log: Piloting three double crossers
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2015/07/piloting-three-double-crossers-and.html
Monday, July 27, 2015. Piloting three double crossers. This past week was the SLOW swim camp. On Friday morning we went up to Tony Grove Lake. About a 15 mile drive from the cabin where we stayed. Chad, Sarah and Lisa were there with their families and we all had a great time. We swam just one perimeter of the lake which came to about 3/4 mile. Water temp was 69°F. Beautiful cliffs and scenery. We didn't want to swim too much considering we had a big swim set for Saturday very early. We finally arrived a...

Gords Swim Log: Fremont Lake Crossing
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2012/07/lake-fremont-crossing.html
Monday, July 16, 2012. Last year, John Kelly. About his crossing of Fremont Lake. In Wyoming. It is a 9 mile swim in a lake that has so much personality! It is a glacier lake and the anticipation was that this would be a perfect training swim for Dover with the lake being in the low 60's, possibly even lower. With Austin and Jacob at scout camp this week, I had to rely on Lucy to be my paddle support. She had only been 6 miles before in very flat water, so this was really going to test her. We saw some b...

Gords Swim Log: Early Jordanelle swim
http://gordsswimlog.blogspot.com/2015/06/early-jordanelle-swim.html
Monday, June 29, 2015. This was only my 2nd swim in Jordanelle and I was unfamiliar with how far it was to the Dam, or any shorelines that are especially good to avoid. Goody did a good job guiding us and I am grateful. Shoulder felt stiff around mile 3 and offered to switch with Goody, but he was fine and I wasn't completely done. So I stayed in the water and finished the swim. Swam 4.66 miles in 2:45. Pushed it along the buoy line which Josh caught up and passed me on. That boy is getting quick! This p...
