Additional uses for Mendeley | Confessions of a marine chemist

Confessions of a marine chemist. Science on the web, marine biogeochemistry and Earth-system science, geeky stuff. Additional uses for Mendeley. Alison from Mendeley asked me to write a bit about the unconventional uses I’ve put Mendeley to, ahead of the Advisor Meeting in London at the end of next month. Therefore we collated papers on observations of trace gas concentrations in the Arctic Ocean and overlying atmosphere into a group. In a recent paper. And tagged Grant proposals. August 17, 2012. Hypothify: first outline | Confessions of a marine chemist

Confessions of a marine chemist. Science on the web, marine biogeochemistry and Earth-system science, geeky stuff. A place to propose, discuss and aggregate evidence for/against hypotheses. Consensus building through democratic voting up/down of evidence/ discussion items. What I thought Quora was going to be when I first heard about it, but less question/answer and more evidence-based. Not peer-reviewed, or peer evaluated, but peer assembled. What’s in it for users? And as we all know in academia, publi...

Almost) everything and anything under the sun. Wednesday, June 20, 2012. I've just hopped over to WordPress for a bit, testing it out to see if I want to migrate over. All this thanks to Ben when he mentioned WordPress and his upcoming Mohjo website (more info about this later when he actually sets it up). So, go on over to The Flea Writes on WordPress. Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Won't it be cool to quote the end of Peter Weyland's speech in future conferences? Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Roughly a month ago?

The Flea writes...: December 2011

Almost) everything and anything under the sun. Friday, December 23, 2011. Fa la la la. My house is now all Chrismassy with all the deco up (thanks to little bro) and carols on full blast from either my room or my sister's. Tween carollers were over last night as well, clearing the house of snacks and juices! Just as well I suppose, since I requested pretty hard songs from them after remembering my own apprehension of such songs when I was in their shoes many years ago. *Evil grin*. A merry fungi Christmas.

Almost) everything and anything under the sun. Monday, March 26, 2012. An old story about ghost nets. Just a little over a year ago, I was out on a survey dive with my boss at my old workplace at Lankayan Island. I can't remember what it was we were supposed to be looking for, but as I was adjusting my mask underwater, I nearly finned right into a ghost net. You might be wondering, what's a "ghost net"? So my boss and I went back to the island to recruit some volunteers (most of whom were divers in our d...

Almost) everything and anything under the sun. Monday, February 27, 2012. Scientists and tattoos of their science. Over the weekend, I had a chat with some friends on the subject of tattoos. I was never really against it, but I wasn't sure if I like the idea of permanently inking myself on one spot. What if I grow old and my skin got saggy? What if the colour of the ink runs over a period of time? How will I explain to my kids? The Science Tattoo Emporium. A career in the sea. Just follow the light.
