If you arrive in Taiwan for the first time, everything will seem very calm, organized and reasonable, especially compared to Mainland China. But there is one thing Taiwanese are not reasonable about at all: And that is food. There is no hardship too hard if it is paid off with good food finally. When we get down there, the neighbors already stacked a table with their gifts to the ghosts. You see everything from crackers to plums to a crate of beer. Each gift carries a small flag with the name and the apartment number of the sponsor so that the ghosts are not mistakingly emptying the wrong crate of beer. This entry was posted in Taiwan customs.
