Scholarship Program – Sparrow

A unique aspect of Sparrow’s Scholarship Program is the intensive contact with the child, the parents and the teachers throughout the whole year. Children leaving school prematurely is a big problem in the Philippines. By visiting the parents and the child personally several times a year we aim to establish a strong relationship, emphasize the importance of education and signal problems at an early stage. For most people living under the poverty threshold medical care is not accessible. Even diseases which are easy to cure often have fatal consequences because of a lack of money for medical care. Public hospitals offer free services, but the costs of necessary instruments, materials and medication still have to be paid. Seminars – Sparrow

Sparrow organizes several seminars in Lazareto. The subjects will be chosen together with the inhabitants of this neighborhood. Some of the subjects are family planning, parent-child bonding and breast feeding. The seminars will be given by professionals on these subjects. To the participants it was a discovery to find out that the most important need of a child can be met without material goods. The seminar was very interactive and the participants were asked to give a lot of input. 31 6 3745 5037.

Iris viert kerst op school. Vandaag en gisteren hebben we kerst op Iris haar school gevierd. Gisteren zijn we met de hele school naar een Mangyan school geweest. De Mangyans zijn de oorspronkelijke bewoners van het eiland Mindoro waar wij wonen. Zij leven in de bergen, hebben een primitieve levensstijl en ze hebben weinig tot geen contact met de buitenwereld. De school heeft cadeaus zoals kleren, voedsel en zeep aan de Mangyans gegeven en ze hebben liederen voor elkaar gezongen. 19/12/2011 bij 1:14 am.
