This and That Farm. Roving & Batts. Roving & Batts. The sheep are shorn once a year, usually towards the end of April. Much of the wool is sold raw to handspinners, but usually some is reserved to be sent out for processing into yarns or roving, batts and top. Batts are usually offered in natural colors of white and greys – usually Cormo and Cormo-cross in white batts and Cormo-cross in grey. Most batts are sized 45″ x 72″ and frequently used for felting. The sweater shown is made of our Cormo-Silk Yarn (86% Cormo, 14% Tussah Silk – Heavy Worsted Weight ). The Cormo-Silk Yarn is sold out but the pattern would work well for any similar weight yarn. This and That Farm. Roving & Batts. The wool from our sheep is custom spun for us into various styles and weights of yarn by Green Mountain Spinnery. Here in Putney, Vermont. These yarns are all Greenspun – a process developed by the Spinnery using only vegetal based soaps and oils to wash and spin the yarns. Yarns are naturally dyed here at the farm using native plants (such as goldenrod, sweet fern, carrot tops and onion skins), roots, barks and Earthues Natural Dye extracts. 100% Cormo Fine Wool.

This and That Farm. Roving & Batts. The sheep are wonderful too! They are a bit smaller than other breeds which makes them easy to handle. Their personalities are very pleasant, quiet yet curious. Through the years we have used Cormo rams to cross with our Romney cross ewes and the resulting Romney-Cormo cross ewes. This crossing adds a wonderful softness and loft to the cross fleeces. The Cormos and the Cormo crosses produce great fleeces – over the years our fleeces have won many awards.
