Split pea for me: Two Top Loop

http://splitpeatraveler.blogspot.com/2016/02/two-top-loop.html

Split pea for me. Thursday, February 4, 2016. I knew the day would be a good one when I let the dogs out and saw Lionhead Mountain lit with morning sun. Choosing the Two Top Mountain loop as our destination, we followed the trail into West Yellowstone's winter wonderland. But our adventurous side got the best of us, and we soon said good-bye to the groomers and headed for the trees. The ghost trees, that is. All winter, the wind blows snow into these trees freezing them into what I call. Later, the way g...

Split pea for me: February 2015

http://splitpeatraveler.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Split pea for me. Saturday, February 21, 2015. Who Says Camping Is A Summer Sport? From below the bottom bunk in the guest room, tucked behind a large plastic bin filled with kayak paddles and ultralight cookware, came a beckoning. Cautiously, like the sound of hope when it's first forming, something called to me. That something was my tent. Immediately, I thought: Great. I haven't camped in awhile. Then I thought: That's because it's January. Diana, Meg, and I at the trailhead. When aiming to keep a pac...

Split pea for me: October 2014

http://splitpeatraveler.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Split pea for me. Wednesday, October 29, 2014. The Redwoods in October. My cousin and I walked with giants. For four days, we would walk with them, some of the tallest living things on earth- the Coastal Redwoods of Northern California. But it did, and just before 4 pm, we walked into Redwood National Forest. Before long, we came to our first stream crossing- Redwood Creek. Jenny walked upstream in search of a more shallow crossing, but alas, our calves were not to remain dry. They did. And so did we!

Split pea for me: Going Cross Country

http://splitpeatraveler.blogspot.com/2016/01/going-cross-country.html

Split pea for me. Sunday, January 31, 2016. The snow squeaks long beneath my skis,. The tall trees whine in the tin breeze,. Ahead a trail bends into wood,. I glide along its whitened hood. With summer's sun slipped far away,. The chance to walk earth's milky way. Falls flake by flake across these parts,. The heart your only weather chart. I wonder should I dig down deep,. If that would make this moment keep,. My little dog would laugh and go,. For she thinks moments can't be stowed. Great verse, too!

Split pea for me: February 2016

http://splitpeatraveler.blogspot.com/2016_02_01_archive.html

Split pea for me. Tuesday, February 23, 2016. West Yellowstone, Montana, a small mountain town that consists of less than one square mile and sits at almost 7000 feet above sea level, had me at its edge last week. Suddenly, and without warning, I was overtaken by a funk of sufficient size. Was it boredom? West Yellowstone's version of Island Fever? An apt name for the big sky blues, I thought, as vast mountain ranges loomed in every direction. Never thought I'd tire of the mountains though. Is cabin feve...

On the Trail With Eeyore: Sawyer Squeeze Filter: a Review

http://eeyorehikes.blogspot.com/2012/09/sawyer-squeeze-filter-review.html

On the Trail With Eeyore. Friday, September 14, 2012. Sawyer Squeeze Filter: a Review. Unfiltered water goes into one end of the filter, through the side walls of a bunch of micro-fibrous tubes into their center, and then out the other end of the filter as clean water. A certain amount of pressure is required to do this, provided either by gravity, or by squeezing an attached bag of untreated water. Either way will work, although the squeezing method will generally be faster. September 14, 2012 at 5:20 PM.

Fragment Friday - The Mapping Edition. There's a whole lot of empty going on. 1 I have a minor obsession with maps. I've had it as long as I can remember, from spinning the globe in second grade to playing GeoGuessr. This morning. Beachball round, or flat and crinkly, there's something about the shapes and boundaries that is a seductive siren call. 3 I love Google maps and would marry them if I could. 5 I'm developing quite the love for my GPS device also. Insta-maps, what's not to like? My little car ic...

We have moved back by family in Utah and it's good to be close to them again. We had a wonderful Christmas and are always grateful for this time of year to celebrate the birth of our Savior. I'm glad he pulled through with the remote control cars, it's all my boys have talked about wanting to get! Superheros in the house! Garrett inside a huge bubble! FHE, in a tent!

Split Pediment | The musings of a Brighton-based architecture dweeb and town planner in training.

The musings of a Brighton-based architecture dweeb and town planner in training. May 2, 2013. I don’t entirely agree with Daniel Knowles’s piece in the Economist. But I agree with the general thrust – that we shouldn’t let people like the CPRE bully us into fear of building on greenfied sites. I’m more of a new town person myself, aesthetically-speaking at least) but don’t have a coherent plan for getting these in place. No county council are going to decide to turn a village into a town ...And a serious...
