Named after the Hammond family who owned The Racecourse in the late 1940's and 50's family and the Old Rackheath Cricket Club played on a field behind the house.". This road is off Salhouse Road and is the last street of Sprowston before you go into the countryside. The road was built in 1976. I have been doing some research and have still not properly found out how it got it's name. I have read here. Many thanks to Pauline Mallett.

The thatched cricket pavilion was opened in 1933 by the Lord Mayor of Norwich. It was donated by Sir Michael Falcon who was born at Sprowston Manor in 1888.
