Every day is a new adventure. Come along for the language learning ride! Manía Musical de Marzo–March Musical Madness. This week we are wrapping up a unit on entertainment, including music, that has a strong emphasis on expressing opinions. We also live in the heart of basketball country, with three teams within an hour of us that are participating in the NCAA tourney this week. As a result, basketball brackets are plentiful and predicting your team’s success is a hobby. March 17, 2015. My students loved...

Every day is a new adventure. Come along for the language learning ride! An AAPPL a day, part 2. Photo credit: http:/ www.usappleblog.org/. In my last blog post. I wrote about the preliminary experiences of administering the AAPPL exam in my classes. Several people asked what the AAPPL measure was–in short, it’s an online, computer-based proficiency exam produced by ACTFL and tied to ACTFL proficiency levels. Every day is a new adventure. Come along for the language learning ride! Thanksgiving: Family, Food, Football…and naps. One of the things I miss the most during the school year compared to the summer is afternoon naps. When living abroad, I relished the cultures that said. Let’s just chill out for a while this afternoon. Did you know that there was a national siesta competition in Spain? How awesome is that? After discussing the siesta for a few days with materials available here. The next day students w...

Every day is a new adventure. Come along for the language learning ride! Back in the day…. All of these forces work against the fact that there is still teaching and learning that needs to go on. While it would be tempting to relax a little, I believe it’s time to bring out my best game like teams do in the playoffs. If ever there was a sprint to the final championship, we are in it now! Option 2 is kind of a play on #tbt and the photos like the ones here. Option 3 was inspired by @SraSpanglish and @tand...

Every day is a new adventure. Come along for the language learning ride! Back in the day–2015 Barcelona-London Hot Seat Edition. We are in the midst of one of my favorite novice units: “Back in the Day”. This southern expression so neatly sums up our entire unit and at the same time helps to solidify the notion of the imperfect tense. I wrote last year. The second thing that I did differently was to introduce the concept of the imperfect v. present tense by talking about Barcelona before and after th...
