Library of Technical Papers. Thermal management is critical to the successful operation of a tail gas analyzer. Sulfur mist and vapor are present in the gas extracted from the process. The gas must be treated so that elemental sulfur vapor is reduced but does not solidify in the analyzer. In addition, safe operation requires redundant monitoring of the oven temperature. The Model 888 monitors temperatures at six temperature points to assure safe and reliable operation. Monitors 6 Temperature Points.

The unit’s extensive self-diagnostics monitor six temperatures and four separate pressures, with automatic adjustments in process flow. The analyzer also is equipped with steam (hot condensate) blowback to removes ammonia salts and an anti-clogging feature that is automatically initiated if plugging is detected. Library of Technical Papers. When elemental sulfur is formed in a sulfur recovery unit H. S is entrained in the liquid sulfur as it runs into the sulfur pit. Polysulfide compounds in the liquid sulfur break down with time to additional H. S from these sources collects in the vapor space above the sulfur where it could exceed both toxic limits and the lower explosive limit. To prevent a dangerous H. S concentration from accumulating, most pits are air purged. Most plants run with an excessively low H.
