Monday, January 25, 2010. Apparently they killed Santa and used his beard to decorate the trees in the church. Megan wasn't so comfortable looking out from the tower - note her hand clinging to the wall. Us waiting for the train - me with my new China shop hat because it was cold out. However, before I got to attend the concert - I had to actually get to Pápa. I called Megan just to make sure, "I don't need to switch trains in Győr do I? I asked if the train went to Pápa, and he said no, in fact this tra...

Hungary 2008!!: August 2009
http://teachinginhungary.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 29, 2009. Last days in Debrecen. Yes, I typed it correctly, playing pool. They did not know me, I didn't know them. I didn't know where we were going, supposedly they did. it was off to a great start. It's all in the attitude. I finished my run, though not as strong as I had hoped, but I finished. I was able to do so because of my encounter with the 9th grade students and with a complete stranger- a runner-who had given me the faith in myself to keep going- with or without Vaseline.

Sunday, February 14, 2010. Last encounter with the neighbors. I can barely talk to you and you want me to SKYPE you? Doubtful. My answer to her? Getting out of the apartment wasn't the end of it though. I returned to the third floor, and there was a post it note on my door that said, "Carla, your keys are in apartment 3/1." And, it was in English. What? Hi Kata, yeah, I am fine - I'm at home." "You're at home? So I went to the door and answered the phone- "Carla, it's Anna, can I come up? I assured her t...

Hungary 2008!!: Going away party - Hungary style!
http://teachinginhungary.blogspot.com/2010/02/going-away-party-hungary-style.html
Sunday, February 7, 2010. Going away party - Hungary style! I decided that I would like to have some of the students over to my house as a "good bye" type event. I told all my students about it, and made an "event" on Facebook, which then makes it legit right? I had no idea how many kids would come, but I prepared some snickerdoodles and chocolate chip cookies to share with whomever showed up. Much to my surprise, there were TONS of studenst there - including some who graduated last year! Life as I know ...

Monday, November 30, 2009. Where can you find five different accordion players, yodelers, an Irish band, folk dancers, Hungarian religious songs a rousing rendition of “Good Night Ladies” and nine pair of liederhosen? A Hungarian Choir concert – where else? Kata the director has an amazing way of putting together a hodge podge of entertainment to ensure that the concert appeals to anyone and everyone. She did not let down this time either. They danced to several songs and sang to some. Our guys sang R...

Monday, June 29, 2009. All my bags are packed. So - I've embraced "packing light" for this trip - no really. If you knew me, you'd be shocked. At any rate, I'm leaving early tomorrow morning for Paris and Be-ne-lux- yes, all three. So I'll have short posts when possible, and a slew when I get home I'm sure. Happy Margaret? Welcome to Anne who FINALLY got on to the blog - you've got a lot of reading to do! See you later all! Interesting art from the festival. Crowds crowds and more crowds. Artwork out ...

http://teachinginhungary.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2009. Minimarathon - Tata style. However, this particular race presents some special circumstances. First, it's at 4pm in the height of the mid-day heat. It' supposed to be 90-95 degrees tomorrow. I'm used to getting up in the morning, putting on my race gear, having half a Diet Coke and a small breakfast and going to the race. Not the case here. I have no idea, but man- if I run in that heat and humidity and DON'T get a t-shirt, they're going to have another revolution to celebrate in t...

Monday, September 21, 2009. Csenge - my 5 year old "student". I take no credit for her learning this song - though we did do a rousing version of "Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" today. isn't she a sweetie? Sunday, September 20, 2009. The man, the myth, the legend : Stanislaw Albro. Ladies and Gentlemen - Stanislaw Albro. Last weekend, I ventured to the small town of Gödölő, only 20 some miles out of Budapest. What drew me to Gödölő? A festival in Stan's town - not quite sure what the occasion was.
