Due to budgetary constraints we used recycled mineral wool rather than sheep’s wool in the roof, with un-plastered gypsum board finished with clay paint for the ceiling. August 9, 2015. Irish Archaeologists from County Wexford. Giving a new lease of life to an old Wexford cow byre. A little while ago I posted a picture of our renovation project on Facebook. This generated quite a lot of interest so I have decided to do a few blog posts on it to show you our progress. As the byre is on a slope a new retaining wall had to be built as the old rubble one wasn’t up to the job. The new wall was built of concrete blocks and will be lime rendered and stone-faced at a later date. August 11, 2016.
