Most people come to St Andrews for the golf, but more and more people are coming to St Andrews for the West Sands, 2km of wide flat golden sand, up to 1/2 km wide at low tide, with the surface going from soft to hard, ripply to bowling green flat, but generally very good. Credit must go to Dan Fowden of Wind and Water for his role as Beach Liaison Officer with the Local Council. The one major downside, is the West Sands, can be VERY BUSY.

My first experience of kite flying was as a child when my parents took my brother and I down to the big beach on our bikes to swim and play in the sand dunes. My dad bought a small diamond kite and laterally a 2-line stunter - this was well before my teens. With more and more time being given over to one of my other passions - playing the bagpipes.
