MrEdward Ward's house is the oldest standing house at over 100 years old. South East Bight was originally settled by the Handlins in 1835. By 1836 the population. Had risen to about 30 people, all of Roman Catholic religion. A census taken in 1871 showed that the main families were Dunphy, Hayne, Hefferon, Hunt, Pitman, Reddy, Ward, and Wight. This is a photo of the home of Jack and Mary Lake. Mr. And Mrs. Lake moved this home from Darby's Harbour when they moved here in the 60's. New church built in 1986.

St Anne's School is a small multi-aged school housing grades Kindergarten to Level 1 Students. Our school population for 2000-2001 is 23 with an estimated increase to 24 in the fall. This year our school had a very successful adventure, winning several awards at local and provincial competitions. Fall 2001 we will be building a school web page therefore we invite you to come visit with us then.

There are a lot of wild animals here in South East Bight. Just a few of them are:. Moose, whales, seals, bears, lines, foxes, and bald eagles. The local flora of South East Bight consists of:. Water in South East Bight is sometimes very hard to get. If you want your own water you can go through the process of digging a well. Some dig their wells from 5 to 6 ft deep. This is the most common source of water in our community. Within the last few years people have stopped throwing their garbage directly.

There is only one way to get to South East Bight, by boat. You have to travel towards Marystown on the Burin Peninsula, turn off the highway at Boat Harbour, travel by gravel road to Petite Forte and then take a half hour ferry ride to South East Bight.
