What's new at Starbucks in Japan. There are people lined up out the door.”. Starbucks is really just like a family! Doesn’t matter how long you haven’t seen them, they still remember your name, your kids name and your drink order! That is true love! While there is only seating for about 30 or so, it was never full while we were there. So if you want to spend time sitting and enjoying the view, there will be room inside as well outside! It will be fun to compare the atmosphere at each store! Sep 28, 2011.

What's new at Starbucks in Japan. This morning another Starbucks bloger in Tokyo posted on twitter a picture of the new 15 year anniversary canisters. That reminded me of the 10 year cans that I have at home. She asked for pictures and/or a blog. So here it is. We still use these cans on a daily bases. They are on our kitchen counter and we keep a variety of stuff in them. I hope you like this blast from the past! Halloween book party and tasting party! Nov 02, 2011. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. What's new at Starbucks in Japan. Halloween book party and tasting party! Coffee and food pairing. Today is the day was the Halloween party. All of the kids dressed up as well as some of the staff. They read a story to the kids, do a craft, and play a few games. Then at the end they all get some milk to drink! Which is my son’s favorite part. The kids at the end of the Halloween party! My son usually is all smiles but he could see his dad at a corner table playing Angry Birds and he wanted to do it too!

What's new at Starbucks in Japan. Who doesn’t love Christmas at Starbucks? Seriously, is there a better time of the year in a Starbucks store? For those of us in Japan, a close second is Sakura season, but I just love Christmas at Starbucks. With all the red flowing around the store, the staff are excited about the season too! 8221; cuz I made him take off some of those boring round balls so that my Starbucks ornaments could be seen more prominently. Far Away Blog: Raising a Bilingual Child: Code Switching
http://kobekevin.blogspot.com/2013/08/raising-bilingual-child-code-switching.html
Monday, August 12, 2013. Raising a Bilingual Child: Code Switching. Code Switching - Up close and personal. I have to admit that watching my son’s language development is absolutely amazing. I grew up in “one language” household. My family used English. Now, my family in Japan uses both English in the house and outside as well. In linguistics, code switching is switching between two or more language varieties, in the context of a single conversation. You can follow me on Twitter: @jlandkev. I also found ...

Friday, August 16, 2013. I Want to go on an Adventure. Have you ever wanted to do something amazing? Have you ever wanted to do something so cool that you could look back on it for years and years and be proud you did it? Have you ever wanted to do something so “off the wall” that would be able to amaze people with the tales for years to come? The second thing holding me back from running off into the great outdoors and doing something incredible…money. Big adventures don’t tend to come c...Known as one ...

Far Away Blog: Teaching in Japan as a Non-Native English Speaker

Monday, August 26, 2013. Teaching in Japan as a Non-Native English Speaker. There seems to be a myth going around that if you are a foreigner who wants to work in Japan as an English teacher that you must be a native English speaker (English is the your first language). Although that may be true in a country such as South Korea, it couldn’t be more wrong in Japan. In my years in Japan I have worked with a large number of teachers from a wide variety of countries. Many of them have not been native Eng...

Sunday, October 21, 2012. Japanese Mafia Headquarters.I take a look! So here’s the deal. I am coming near the end of my training for Osaka Marathon 2012. To the other, but decided something a little new for this morning’s 31km (20 mile) run. I wanted to make it a “destination” run so to speak. I decided that I would check out the compound that is the headquarters of the Yamaguchi-gumi. The Yamaguchi-gumi is the largest organized crime syndicate in Japan and is what is known as the yakuza. Didn't want to ...

Monday, January 14, 2013. Constantly Talking: a teaching tool. One piece of advice I give to new teachers, especially ones teaching second language learners is to constantly speak to them and ask them questions. This of course gives them more opportunities to hear English as well think in the language and speak it. Practice, practice, practice! The more you practice anything, the better you will become. Learning a language is no different. Today I went for a walk with my son and spoke to him the entire t...
Far Away Blog: 5 Scariest Bugs in Japan

Friday, August 23, 2013. 5 Scariest Bugs in Japan. Scariest Insects in Japan. My Top 5 List (I realize that not all are "technically" bugs). Recently I was asked a question on my YouTube Facebook page. About creepy crawly things. Someone who plans to move to Japan shared with me that they are very frightened of spiders and fear they may have an allergy. They wondered if there are many spiders one should fear in Japan. Japanese Giant Hornet (Suzumebachi):. These fairly reclusive creatures tend to stay in ...

Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Raising a Bilingual Child: Constant Questioning. Raising a Bilingual Child. Teaching Tip: Constant Questioning. I learned a lot working as a kindergarten teacher for five years. I closely observed my students and I watched their parents carefully as well. I asked students about their interactions with their parents. Do they read stories to you? Do you sit together as a family and eat meals together? On a Summer insect hunt with my son. Constantly questioning your child is a gr...
