Monthly Archives: December 2013. December 25, 2013 · 4:00 pm. Annual Christmas Story: The Man of the House. The Man of the House. What happens on Christmas Eve, Grandfather? How does one explain the complexity of Christmas Eve to a young soul who’s had only one incarnation and didn’t live long enough to accumulate references based on experience? But you know as well as I that such idealized scenes are not universal. And what would she know of midnight church services with carols and sacred songs, sin...

Note: the following comments discuss the realities and particularities of sex in the spirit of just sayin’, not whining.). Mid-day, while working in the kitchen, I listen to philosopher Allain de Botton* on Virginia Prescott’s Word of Mouth. The mail arrived not long after the Word of Mouth. Why didn’t we think about that? I mean, seriously. The incarcerated, those in the military? What does one do then? And what of loneliness?

Remember how, when you were young, and you left your friend’s house across the street as dusk was setting in, and her/his mama watched until you were safely inside your own? How you felt protected by that gaze, even though your pace quickened, and you were scared by any little noise? You get what you vote for, apparently. August 26, 2012 · 8:45 pm. A Maker Space Making a School Library | The Nocturnal Librarian

https://thenocturnallibrarian.com/2015/06/11/a-maker-space-making-a-school-library

Musings of a night owl reference librarian . . . June 11, 2015. A Maker Space Making a School Library. Much has been made of library maker spaces, which are part of the drive to be “relevant” by focusing on STEM. I’ve seen papers and essays galore on why STEM is Very Important for Public Libraries to Offer but I haven’t ever read about public library patrons asking for STEM. So is that relevance, if we tell the people what they want, instead of the other way around? Helped students build furniture and ac...

Reach out in the darkness | Justine Graykin

https://justinegraykin.wordpress.com/2015/07/26/reach-out-in-the-darkness

Reach out in the darkness. There was no sun this morning. Just grey sky and a dampness that drains the color our of everything. I haven’t slept well. The chorus was singing all night in my head. I feel like I’m up against the world. I’m no good. Why can’t I ever succeed? No one understands me. I’m so weak. I’m a terrible person. I’m so disappointed in myself. My life is not going the way I wanted it to. Nothing feels good anymore. I can’t stand this anymore. What’s wrong with me? I’ll never make it.

On Demon Pond | Justine Graykin

I don’t cross that bridge. Instead, I cut off to the right and bushwhack my way along the brook up to Saddleback Mountain Road. This is how I make my way to our local CSA, Saddleback Mountain Farm, run by Wilmer Frey. Boy, does that man know how to grow a garden! So far this year we’ve had big heads of lettuce, fat cukes, broccoli and cabbage, rainbow bunches of chard and fragrant bouquets of basil. Food, glorious food, just as delicious and wholesome as it comes. Reach out in the darkness. You are comme...

Staring Into The Camera. Sometimes that's all you can do. Wednesday, July 8, 2015. Still no luck unjamming whatever thoughts there are in my head right now but I'm not trying to rush them - they will come when they're ready. I can say that I have been thoroughly enjoying this time to myself this week. I definitely needed it. Could have done without the constant text messages from coworkers/managers telling and asking me stuff (bitch, I'm on vacation! Links to this post. Tuesday, July 7, 2015. It's been a...

As far as our eyes can see. Saturday, June 25, 2005. OK, I've tried this blogging thing for several weeks now and admit to being totally hooked. I haven't posted since Thursday, because all spare time has been given over updating the server which hosts alternativeworship.org. Well, it's now up and running, and it's much.
